Globus Highlights of Britain & Ireland (coach question)

I've booked a trip with Globus and will be traveling on one of their coaches. I've been given conflicting information about the carry on luggage allowed inside the coach.

One agent said to go with what is stated - no larger than size 11 x 12 x 6.

Another agent said that as long as the carry on meets the airline requirement 22 x 14 x 9 would be fine as long as the wheels were removed.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has traveled on a Globus coach.

Thank you!

Bus aisles are narrower than airplane aisles--I wouldn't want to drag anything I didn't need while ON the bus.

I would think one of the advantages of a coach tour would be not having to carry much onto the coach. Is there a particular reason a small bag won't get you through the day?

A bag that large should be stowed under the bus.

The overhead racks are smaller and you would not want to sit for hours with you feet wedged on top of a suitcase.

Thanks everyone! I should have also said that my regular suitcase would fit under the bus and we are only allowed one. I had planned to travel with a regular suitcase and a carry on suitcase. The way it was worded, I thought they would not allow the carry on to be stowed along with my suitcase.

Perhaps I should just pack a smaller carry on.

Just because you can take a full sized suitcase and a 22 inch rollaboard - doesn't mean you have to.

Much better to have a smaller carry-on with just the basics in it. Since you are on a tour they will deal with the larger suitcase so you don;t have to squish everything into a 22" - but can take a 24" or even a 26".

Why would you want to haul that larger one on and off the bus all the time.

Hi

Don't forget you also need to allow space for coats etc. in the coach shelf. If you do need to bring a carry on bag for your flight etc. one option is to take one that can pack flat in your suit case for the duration of the tour. Alternatively if the coach has vacant seats there may a possibility of storing bags on rear seats. This is entirely at the discretion of the Tour Director.

Back in the dark ages when I took a couple of Globus tours, they sent a small bag with their pre-trip packet. In fact, one of them is such a nice size that I sometimes use it for other travel. It makes a perfect foot rest for me on an airplane.

There is limited space in the overhead lockers - they are designed for coats rather than bags. Depending on the coach, the amount of leg room varies and in many there isn't size for a large bag on the floor beside you and to still have space for your feet. If the coach is full you will end up with it on your lap.

The thought of trying to take a 22 x 14 x 9 case on the bus with you is ridiculous and your fellow passengers will not thank you trying to lug it on and off. Anything that size should be in the stored with the rest of the luggage under the bus.... 22 x 14 x 9 is a much more sensible size for on the coach.

Aim to travel light - one suitcase and a small day pack.

They will put larger carry-ons under the bus at no extra charge. You just will not be able to get to it all day.
I use a back pack as a carry-on and it works perfect for me.
