Why are you taking the Glacier Express - to me not nearly the most scenic train in Switzerland - the Bernina Express takes that cake and several in the Jungfraujoch region are even more awesome but not a marathon journey.

GEX is most overhyped over publicized train in Europe - best parts from Zermatt to Brig/visp and just before St Moritz - the Albula Curves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site for prodigious railway engineering for its time - circa 1900.

The GEX is a long marathon day where IME many passengers become rather bored for the non-awesome but pretty scenery for most of its length.

I could suggest that unless you want to go between Zermatt and St Moritz in one fell swoop that would be the only reason to take it.

For lots of Swiss scenic trains and trains in general check www.swisstravelsystem.com; www.ricksteves.com and www.budgeteuropetravel.com.

Will you have a Swiss Pass or railpass? There's a hefty supplement/reservation fee of about $30 or so I believe.

Unless dead set on GEX what are your other travel plans - we could suggest other scenic routes to St Moritz.

topping- anyone know the answer to naik7's query - I would be interested in knowing. To me as long as you have a window seat it would be fine but these trains - GE trains - are often chuck full with group tours so chances of moving around are nil often.

Thanks however I have almost freezed my travel plan.
Can someone answer my query on the seat selection?
Apart from GEX I am also doing Golden Pass.
I am on 8day travel plan and I have 8day swiss pass

Between, will GEX be crowded even during early June?

Thanks

GEX is can be crowded anytime due to tour buses but who knows - hard to tell - one suggestion call Byron at www.budgeteuropetravel.com- he is an agent of RailEurope who makes Glacier Express reservations I believe - call him and ask him the question even if not buying anything (due to RE's handling fee for just reservations you will be better buying online- but he can give you the info desired IME of buying passes from him for years. I think you could wait until Switzerland to make the reservation or if you have one at any Swiss station you probably can change it to one you want.
