Gare Montpellier St. Roch car rental pick up and drop off
We arrived here on a Monday about 1pm. We found an elevator to take us and our luggage up to the main floor of the train station and then followed the signs to voiture location on the second floor American which was on the right side of the statiOn as you face the train station.
After rceiving keys and hand drawn maps, We went outside and made our way way to the parking garage. The elevator number 2 was almost at the end of the row through a heavy metal door in the parking garage. We went down to the ground floor, exited the building by the casis (ticket) machine but the hand drawn map was not clear. Lots of construction going on. Drawing made it look like the lot was on the left side of the building but it is more like kitty corner behind the garage.
Following the guys directions to make two rights when leaving the "parking garage "(lot) we ended up in the parking garage. So it should say follow the parking lot road up to the main road and then turn right.
Still having trouble trying to figure out where to return the car on Sunday AM. Address is 24Avenue du Maurin Gare St. ROch which is the Europcar agency office address. On Google maps I can see a huge lot across from the agency. It is .8 miles from the train station which isn't exactly AT the train station. I want my husband to turn the car on Saturday instead of Sunday so we shall see.

<< The actual park (in particular for car rental returns) should be accessed via Avenue de. Maurin - This is a smallish road that runs South of the station, parallel (mostly) to the tracks. The turnoff from Avenue de. Maurin is located between the Nouveau Saint-Roch Tram pickup to the South and a restaurant called the Brassierie le Bistrot to the North. It should be noted that if you're traveling North on Avenue de. Maurin looking (again, somewhat parallel to the North-South tracks) for the car rental return turnoff, it is not well-marked at all. The turnoff is located at a couple of small stoplights, and there's a blue parking sign - noted with the large white letter "P". Good luck, it's not easy unless you're well acquainted with the turnoff.>>

It looks like they will never get this organized. And yet they will, sooner or later.
Actually a new Montpellier TGV station is under construction, so they are probably trying to ignore the problem until it opens.

Ronda, return the car to the airport on Saturday and take taxis and/or have your friends drive you to the train station on Sunday. You're going to have a lot of stress otherwise with a 10am train departure.

Ronda, one last thought on this. I would, as you say, suggest you return the car today/Saturday. At least you won't be up against a train deadline. The consensus seems to be that this is difficult and it was a nightmare for us in July. One of only 2 places (other was CdG airport) that we've had this much trouble. Stu Dudley

Thanks for the wise advice, Stu, but my husband is determined to return the car is n Montpellier. We will see how he feels after tomorrow.
Thank you for the directions, Christina. I looked and looked on the website. I could not find directions. I looked at our train tickets again and the train to Montpellier left Paris at 10 a.m. And the train leaving Montpellier for Paris leaves at 12:57 so we have more wiggle room. I think with those directions we can find it. I have looked at google maps and it looks like there is a very large parking lot by the train tracks on that corner.
Thanks all for your help.
Yes, DebitNM we ended up back in the garage. Went all the way to the top where it was less crowded, did a u-turn and went back down. It took us 1 hour to get on the road!
I just discovered there are GPS coordinates for the return parking lot but since I have never used GPS coordinates I don't have a clue how to enter them or even if they would be of any value:
N43 36' 00"/E3 52' 00"

The map on the Europcar site for Montpellier looks quite clear to me.

YEAH! They changed the signage. From Our B&B in Grabels we entered 24 Avenue De Maurin, Montpellier in the Garmin. Got us going in the right direction on De Maurin, saw a shabby building on the left with 24 on it, shortly past it on the right, on the fence, is now a huge banner with Rental Car Return and symbols of all the rental car companies. Once turning in there was another huge sign. We proceeded the the the ticket machine, took a ticket, drove in and parked the car.
I believe it is the same parking lot where we picked up the car because I immediately recognized the circular parking garage, the door by the ticket machine, and the elevator up to the level with the train station.
The station is not heated so we headed to Paul for something warm to drink and a warm place to wait.
Thanks all! I was sick in bed for two days so appreciate your help. I'm blaming it on the cassoulet in Carcasonne. No duck, no frommage, no foie gras, no rich food for me for quite sometime!

I think the drop off location has changed since we were there in July this year. It was a huge lot below street level on the RIGHT side of the one-way access road - not a circular garage. No door, no ticket machine, no elevator - just a huge uncovered lot.
I hope you don't tell Dan's cousin that you got sick on cassoulet!!
