I am traveling to Rome next week and one of the things I would like to do is shop for furniture. I am particularly interested in buying a dining room table but, as I recently moved into a new house, I am keeping an eye out for anything else of interest. I have been told that there are good furniture/antique shops in the Piazza Navona area. If there are any shops in particular that anyone could recommend, or any other areas where good furniture shops are located, I would be very grateful. Also, if anyone has any helpful tips on furniture/antique shopping in Rome and/or Italy generally, I would appreciate any such comments. Thanks!

Via dei Coronari is the street for antique shops. There aren't a lot of bargins there but you might check out Bonuccelli (V.dei Coronari 200) which can make any type of table you like and ship overseas. A second hand furiture shop worth looking into is Mario Prili on Via Banchi Nuovi 47.

There are several small antique stores on Via Guila close to the Campo di Fiori as well. Its a nice street to walk down even if you don't find anything.

My only tip is to do some shopping before you leave to get an idea of price, quality, etc. You may find that the cost of shipping one table back to the US will be about the same or even more than the cost of the table itself; therefore it might be cheaper to buy it in the US. Smaller pieces that you can take home on the plane are ship cheaply by DHL, Mail Boxes, etc are fine, but larger pieces are quite expensive to ship. Don't forget that you may have to pay US customs duty on the table when it arrives in the US.

I totally agree with Cicerone.
If the table you would like to buy is from a well-known manufacturer, you should normally find their products worldwide. I would then suggest you take all the info you can get and find the US importer to order once you are back home.
I know this info is of no use if you buy an old antique table...
