From Basel to Lindau by train
I need some help please as I arrive Basel at 6pm. I understand I can get train from Basel BAD and need to know how far this station is from the airport and how to get transport to station. Can I buy my ticket onboard in case I am rushing. If my flight arrives at 6pm I see there is a train leaving at about 19:45. Will there be enough time to make this connection? Also any suggestion as to whether a rail pass would work out better. I am senior woman traveling solo. Thank you for any helpful information.

You cannot buy a ticket on board local trains in Baden-Württemberg (Basel Bad = Badischer Bahnhof counts as German station). Instead you are facing a fine if you are caught without a ticket on board the train, and yes there are conductors checking the ticket.
The solution: Buy your ticket online on www.bahn.de. To avoid hassle with ticket machines I would invest in a standard fare ticket (32.50 €) which can be booked online and printed at home. These are all local trains, no seat reservations possible, so you can do this just before your departure from home. Make sure you bring the very same credit card you paid the ticket with because it serves as your ID on the train.

Thanks for much for responses. I just booked the ticket and have it printed.
I will be doing a few day trips from Lindau and other Lake Constance towns and would like to know where to make overnight stops as I move onwards to Rhine and up towards Frankfurt. I have checked rail fares to several places and all seem to be expensive. Is there a pass for about 5-7 days that might be more economical? Thanks again.

Hi Cav,
www.bahn.de shows discount fares of 29E from Lindau to Frankfurt.
I think that you can get them 90 days out.
