French river cruises

Has anyone ever been on the Viking river cruise "French Vineyards and Vistas" or have you heard pros or cons about the tours? It sounds like a relaxing way to see the French countryside. Thanks so much for any opinions. K

We did both a river cruise (that was with Peter Deilmann not viking) and a canal barge cruise (with FranceCruises.com).

The barge was definitely the best of the 2...

Thanks olivia for the reply! I had just returned home after making reservations for the viking tour and read your message. I usually don't do tours in Europe but I don't speak a word of French even though I took a night class this fall (disaster)and I feel very intimidated. At least you didn't feel the cruise was a disaster. I so appreciate all the wonderful ideas I've read. My daughter (20) and I are going to stay in Nice and Paris before and after the cruise. Any suggestions for a hotel in a central part of Paris would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! K

In the search section type in hotels Paris and you should find hours of reading. From what I've learned here, 'central Paris' means the lower arrondisement numbers.

Your percieved need to speak French is misplaced.Throughout Europe most people in the tourist industry and a great # of the general public speak english,it is taught in their schools. We have been to Europe at least 10 times and never had trouble communicating using english only.
