Frankfurt Boredom?

I'm on my way to Frankfurt for 10 days and am afraid of being bored and starving! What do I need to see (am willing to travel on a budget) and where/what foods/restaurants can a Texas girl handle if she doesn't do well with local favorites?

I recommend you get a simple travel book on Germany, such as Rick Steves. It should alleviate a lot of your concerns and give you ideas for things to do in the Frankfurt area.

As for food, have no fear. My sister is a very picky eater, and we did not have a meal we didn't like on our trip to Germany in 2003. I assume you can handle Bratwurst as a fall back?

There's no better Italian food than Italian food in Germany. Lots of it too. There are steak houses, salad bars, Chinese restaurants, a very international selection in most cities. Course, if you're looking for fried possum or something, you may be disappointed.

Get a guidebook and get out of town. Lots of interesting places nearby.

Lost-there are many places in Germany where you could be bored, and not overly impressed with the food however Frankfurt is clearly NOT ONE OF THEM.

FRA is one of my favorite cities in Germany-it's exciting, energetic and vibrant-there's TOO much to see and do-it has world class art museums lined up along the riverfront "museumsufer", (FRA has become a real art center-with a festival at the end of summer to celebrate) there's fabulous opera and theater events, (you'll want to tour the "alte Oper" old Opera house where concerts are held), a fabulous old town (alt Sachsenhausen)where you can just wander around to any number of clubs and bars, (particularly Textorstrasse) it has GREAT shopping (the Zeil), the small medieval rebuilt area just by the Main river called the "Roemer" (15th century guild houses), there are great German (also Italian, it's true!) restaurants, ("zum Gemalten Haus"-painted house-is a famous German restaurant you should try)there's the Palmengarten area, which is a lovely peaceful botanical garden (good Italian restaurants around there) but my favorite is just to take a walk down along the Main river, with everyone biking, sunning, there are restaurant and cafe/bar boats docked along the river, if you want to have an aperitif-so fun, really, I've just touched the surface.

Anyone who loves meat and pork will love the Frankfurter specialties: schweinshaxen and rippchen with Kraut, and be sure and try the "ebbelwoi"-fermented apple cider drink-a specialty of the city.

Also, cool jazz clubs (FRA loves its jazz) and another popular, hip restaurant/bar that I want to check out, ORFEO'S ERBEN- on Hamburger Allee-looks like a place I'd like:

orfeos.de/kantine/index.html

(the website has the lunch and dinner menus "mittagskarte" "abendkarte" (the gallery images of the outdoor terrace looks great)

Just out of curiosity, are you being forced to go to Frankfurt for 10 days, or what?

Why would you expect to be bored visiting another country?

Why would you expect to starve? Have you seen many emaciated Germans lately?

I don't get how people find themselves going to faraway places they don't even seem to be interested in.
