Franco-Prussian War sites
Hello Fodorites,
This is pretty esoteric, but I was hoping to catch some European military historians to get advice on visiting Franco-Prussian War sites in eastern France. I live in Germany, so traveling there is quite easy, and I'm familiar with the major battles- would just appreciate some advice on some good spots for picturing the various events. Thanks!

We came upon one near Niederbronn les Bains. It was a memorial to a battle fought there. A nice picturesque spot and nobody else around. I'll look back over our trip notes to pinpoint the location.
Niederbronn is a pretty town, it dates back to Roman times, and is far less touristed than other towns in the region. Their tourist office could probably help you with some specific sites. Many Franco-Prussian battles were fought near there.

I am not very familiar with the 1870-71 war, but I understand that Belfort was one of the few "successes" from the French point of view. The fortification is impressive when driving by and might be worth a visit.
