foot, bus or train in Rome

Starting point is the Forum area. Is it worth trying to walk to say, the Pantheon, Trevi Ftn and the Spanish Steps or should I just hop on the bus?

I found the bus (#64) not a particularly pleasant experience (from Largo ARgentina to Termini) especially at rush hour - very crowded. It's not that far from the Forum area - walk!

Good afternoon, Lisa One variation to
walking in Rome is to take a taxi to the
furtherest point from your hotel and then walk back. Have done this a number of times, starting with the morning in the Vatican and start walking
back, possibly having lunch in the Pza
Navona and walk back to your hotel thru
the many sights in Rome. Some are outside walking such as S. Pauls, St
John Lateran and the Catacombs, There
can be dun on bus tour and is probably
the simplest way other than relaying
on public transportation.
Richard of LaGrange Park,Il..

Hi Lisa. Walking is worth it, well worth it. I mean, how else are you going to stop and taste the gelato? :~)

We were in Rome for seven days, a year ago, and walked everywhere.

Hi Lisa,
I live and work in Rome. The historical centre of Rome is really quite small and the best way to experience this wonderful city is mostly certainly by walking.
From the Forum to the Pantheon would take only about 15-20mins max, from the Pantheon to the Trevi 5 to10min and from the Trevi to the Spanish Steps about 10-15 mins. Like your other post said how else are you going to get your gelato. Try Blue Ice just by the Trevi, it has icecream to die for! The bus would only drop you on the main street and as each of these sites are located off the smaller streets you would still need to walk a little anyway.
Enjoy and let me know if you have any other questions.
Marianna

I stayed by the Spanish Steps and walked almost everywhere. I enjoy walking and thought it would give me the opportunity to explore the area. Even if you don't enjoy walking as much, the walk between the Forum and Spanish Steps isn't bad. Treat yourself to a gelato at San Crispino when you get to Trevi Fountain.

Hi Lisa
Walking is by far the best way around Rome but using buses back or part of the journey helps at times too. Buy a good map which has the bus routes as well (at any newstand) . Look up the public transport link on the travel page:
http://www.italywithus.com/

walking is fine but plan on lunch inbetween.Plaza N. would be a good spot. Also the gelato mentioned by Trevi.San crispino is awesome much better than blue ice. It's about 2 blocks from the fountain(north i think if your facing the fountain in the middle it's the street to your right straight up) and then left. it's in the middle

You can walk. I can't remember exactly but I think the Spanish Steps to the forum is mostly downhill. Take a taxi to the Spainsh steps and go trevi, Pantheon and Forum. (Plaza Navona sp? is not far from the Pantheon and a also a great place)
