Fodor's Greece 7th Edition - more quotes from our regulars

Picked up the new 7th edition yesterday and I have to congratulate Fodor's. This is the best yet.

I'm working my way through the guide and so far have found quotes from nikki, polly229, indytravel, Karen, Xenos, brotherleelove, stanbr, worldinabag and marilyn.

No doubt I'll find more of our regulars the closer to the end of the book I get but....go buy your own! It really is a fantastic read.

Really? Don't tease; what did I say? Can it be repeated in public?

Hi nikki

You've been quoted in Section 1 - Exploring Athens:

"As we climb the Parthenon's hill at my very slow pace, stopping for photographs every minute, I feel the weight of all who have climbed before us. It brings tears to my eyes. Even now"

You and polly229 were quoted for this section.

You need to get this guide. I have all of Fodor's Greece editions and I think this is the best yet. The writers have done a grand job. Well done to them and to you guys for making it even more enjoyable!

LOL I agree grantop but this time the practical information is very, very good as is the layout.

I've always used the Blue Guide to Athens simply for its better historical insight. With that in mind, Fodor's have really gone into that with much more depth.

Bill

Looking at your previous messages this morning I figure you're in the UK. Where in the heck did you find the book?

I've been waiting on it being published but Waterstones told me that they wouldn't be getting delivery until June 2nd. Did you have it pre-ordered with some other outlet?

I love Greece and knew Fodor's new edition was out soon but it is really frustrating that I can't find the d**n book when someone else has!!!

You are quoted on the first page of Section 9: The Cyclades. Shall I give you the quote on here?

Hi Billbarr

If you don't mind that would be very kind. Apologies to everyone for feeding my bloated ego!

Thanks billbarr. I remember writing that line and not liking the word "weight". I think I really meant to say "presence". Now I guess I'm stuck with it.

Nikki, I think choice was perfect.

I think it is a great move by Fodor's and it's fun finding so many people in the guide that I recognise.

worldinabag, you are quoted alongside brotherleelove:

Yours says:

'Yes, I would bring the ring (to Santorini)...suggest a romantic restaurant with a sunset view of the caldera. Catch her at that moment! If she loves you and has a pulse she can't say no."

Great stuff!

Thanks for that Bill. I'm worse than a hopeless romantic, I'm a hopeful romantic!

Hi Xenos

You are quoted in Section 6 - Corfu

Here you go:

'I recommend spending a full day in Corfu town itself. It's not a very big town, but there's lots to see and plenty of opportunities for just relaxing in cafes and people-watching'.

Regards, bill

Thanks Bill

Pretty boring then. Still, looking forward to taking my own advice and spending some time in Corfu Town in July on our way to Paxos

L84SKY, that has been my thinking.

When Fodors quotes Fodorites in their various travel books since they have our email address they should send each quoted Fodorite an email asking if they would like a complimentary Guide Book (the one they were quoted in) and if so to please send their mailing address so they could ship one to them. How nice would that be??

Very nice but I doubt it will ever happen. Years ago when I lived in Sint Maarten there was a mystery writer who sold a ton of (not very good) skinny little books. Her hook was that she usually included a party scene or a funeral gathering where she described who was there i.e. "Carrybean arrived on the arm of . . ."

You guessed it. Everyone mentioned bought a book.
