flights NYC, Croatia, Latvia

Hi forum,
My husband and I are trying to plan a rather convoluted trip. We'd like to go from New York to Dubrovnik, Croatia, then on to Riga, Latvia, then back to NYC. We'd be spending about a week each in Croatia and Latvia. I'm having trouble figuring out how to book the flights. Booking a roundtrip from NYC to Riga, and then a roundtrip from Riga to Dubrovnik seems to be cheapest, although it's kind of inconvenient. But I can't see how to book the trip as a multi-city.

Perhaps we should book a roundtrip, multi-city ticket from NYC to Dubrovnik (or Zagreb) and then back from Riga, and then book the Dubrovnik -- Latvia leg separately? Anyone have suggestions or airline recommendations?

Thanks,
Cassie

have you tried plugging the entire thing into a multi-city trip on kayak.com?
Alternatively, try open jaw options and then search the european carries (try skyscanner) for the dbv-riga leg.

If I plug the whole trip into Kayak.com, I get a trip that costs $2800. Seems like I should be able to do better than that given that I just found roundtrip tickets to Riga for $850.

for open jaw also?
850 is a great deal, so I'd take that if there is a flight from Riga to Dbv.

There are no direct flights between Riga and Dubrovnik so you'll need to be a bit creative for this leg.

Use skyscanner.net to see if you can put a flight together with one or more of the budget airlines (e.g. easyjet, ryanair) maybe flying through London Stansted. Might be in the region of $200.

Kayak.com can obviously show you options for flying JFK to DBV, then RIX to JFK but as you say it's a convoluted route that makes it expensive.
