Famous travel partners..?

A bit of a general one but which famous person (living or dead) would you most like to go on holiday with? Would you want to go anywhere in particular? If so, why?

I'd choose Johnny Depp. Just because.... ;-)

If I had to travel with a famous person, living or dead, I think I'd choose the living one.

Good point! Unless of course the living person in question was someone like George Bush, in which case give me the dead guy anytime!!

(OK, please don't make this political and having a go at me for saying that!)

As long as my wife with me, I would like to have traveled with:
-Evelyn Waugh just to hear his observations on life around the world today
-the late Alistair Cooke, the perfect gentleman, bon vivant and
'Americanphile'
-John and Abigail Adams

I can think of many living people who would be less engaging than a dead person, but let's not go there.

Johnny Depp is a good choice for me too, for the same reasons you have for wanting to travel with him. But if I were looking for good company and a fun personality, I would choose Sarah Ferguson. She always says funny things and seems like an interesting person to be around.

Well I guess that Michael Palin would be a good choice...a travel expert AND a very funny and utterly charming man (am lucky to have met him once, he was wonderful). And we'd have to go somewhere obscure and adventurous...will have to think about where!

I love Michael Palin! my favorite Python (although it's a tough choice)

are his eyes still as twinkly as they seem to be from the TV?

The roman forum with julius caeser
The Vatican with the pope
Venice with casanova
Florence with Brunelleschi, Michaelangelo (although both these gentlemen are reputed to be particularly surly), Lorenzo Medici.
Venice with Casanova
France with Joan of Arc
Versailles with a maid who knew all the secrets
Egypt with Cleopatra

And so it goes ...

flygirl: Well it was a few years ago, but yes, they are! And doesn't he look good for his age? He was always my favourite of the Monty Python crew...

Oh dear, am getting quite excited at the thought of a fortnight in his company...! ;-)

George Clooney - because he's hot!

Or Oprah Winfrey because she'd be fun and could hire someone to carry our luggage.

For England and Scotland I've love to travel with H. V. Morton, whose books inspired my long-lasting love for those countries. I'd take Elizabeth Peters (aka Barbara Mertz) with to Egypt and Donna Leon to Venice.
