Family of five looking for places to stay in Bacharach Germany.
Planning a two week vacation to Germany in June, starting from Frankfurt we thought Bacharach would be a great first night. Any opinions appreciated. From there we will travel to Dinklesbuhl, Salsburg, Viena , this is far as we have planned! All and any advise apreciatted!

How long will you stay? Apartments are a good choice for families. I'd plan for at least 3 nights so you can recover from jetlag and see a few things. Bacharach is nice but can be visited from other towns that are a little better located as a base for outings. St. Goar has a ferry to the other side of the river, especially convenient for outings by train. It's locate in the most scenic part of the Rhine - 3 castles are visible from town - and has its own castle you can tour: Rheinfels. Use the ferry to visit Marksburg in Braubach (on the opposite side of the river and north.) www.marksburg.de
Not many apartments accommodate 5 or more but this one will - scroll down to the bottom for photos of the 3-bedroom 2-bath flat in the heart of town:

We stayed at Persion im-Malerwinkel last year and it was very reasonable, clean and comfortable. The owners speak English. In a quiet location within a few minutes walk to the town center.

This place in St. Goar has a large apt. too; at the south end of town but you can still reach everything on foot.

Getting around: Daytrips for a family of 5 can be done throughout the Rhine and Mosel region by train for about 30 Euros on a "Rheinland-Pfalz ticket" daypass. Nearly every village has a train station with hourly or better service:

(Error at above site: ticket is good until 3 A.M. the next day, not p.m.!)
