Excursion in Cesme

My husband has a conference in Istanbul in October. We will have about 6 days there but he will be working for 3 of them. With our time together we will go and see the major sites and on one of his work days I will do a day trip to Cappadocia. After our 6 days we leave on a cruise which includes some Greek islands and ends in Athens. Our only 2 other Turkish ports of call are Izmir and Cesme. From Ismir we will go to Ephesus.

Can anyone recommend what to do in or from Cesme to get the best cross section of Turkey ( experiences/culture/food/history) from this brief and limited visit to Turkey?

We are in port from 8am to 6pm that day.

I do not believe that you will get any cross section of Turkey on this trip. So, might as well take it easy and follow the route of others on your boat.

Do you realize that a day trip to Cappadocia entails at least four hours transfer time plus two to two and a half hours of waiting at airport and two and a half hours of flight time besides any possible delays? Buying a good book on Cappadocia and googling will give you almost as much, for far less cost in time and money.

Thanks for the info. Good thing I haven't booked yet; I will have to re-think it I guess.

Otherchelebi )
Some people travel to Cappadocia in a day return, not the most comfy and preferred way though....
