Excellent Southern Piedmont Information Website

My husband and I had a great time visiting Sothern Piedmond villages such as Alba, Barolo, La Morra, Nieve, etc. this Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
We happened to pick up a brochure titled "Tu" at Alba's Tourlist Information office. They had put together an excellent website, www.langheroero.it. I wanted to post this site as it may benefit people interested in this region. One can find detailed listing of accommodations, restaurants, wineries, etc.
I wish I had known of this before our trip to this region.......

Try to find the website www.langheroero.it.They talk about a
brand new l0 minute DVD called "Tu" that is due out in a week or two covering many aspects of the area.
I contacted the tourist office at [email protected] and they are sending it to me.

FYI this website and the several excellent "Tu" publications are published by the official Italian goverment ATL tourist office, in this case combined together for this part of Cuneo Province and covering Alba, Bra, Langhe and Roero areas, one of Piedmont's most prestigious and well known eno-gastronomical zones.
You might also want to checkout the private tourist Consorzio Turistico Langhe Monferrato Roero who share the same office in Alba at <www.turismodoc.it> which has a list of places to stay as well as information about restaurants, events and general information

Re: guide book, we also like Cadagon. Lonely Planet - Piedmont can be helpful as they have detailed maps. This was food driven trip – so we used “Eating in Italy” by Faith Willinger and “Italy for the Gourmet Traveler” by Fred Plotkin. Another food-focused book called “Autumn in Piedmont” by Manuela Darling-Gansser (available at Amazon) is filled with beautiful pictures of Piedmont and its food.
Our trip’s highlight was truffle hunting with Trifulau and his dogs. I will post our trip report soon.
I hope you can get onto their website. While it’s relatively easy to find hotels in this region by using search engine, we had a difficult time finding out Agriturismo there. This website has an extensive list of many beautiful Agriturismo.

Mochi, thanks for your response and info. This is a "wine" driven trip for my, and my wife is just coming along for the ride. She doesn't drink wine. 
I guess I'll have my own designated driver.

Going to many enoteca regionale and trying out different wine was really fun. Barolo’s enoteca was particularly good. Some of the restaurants, such as Osteria dell’Arco in Alba, let us sample 3 different wine during our meal.
We liked a small wine shop called “Grand I Vini Enoteca” (address: via Vittorio Emanuelle 1) also in Alba. They are well stocked with well-known wineries

I didn't see Budman's question, so let me add my 2 bits:
Over the years I have collected a large library of English travel books on Piedmont and I still find Cadogan's "Italian Riveira and Piemonte" one of the best and most detailed, even though the section on Piedmont is smaller then Liguria, the Torino part has items no-one else has.
Of all the new post-Olympic Piedmont guides, National Geographic Traveller "Piedmont & Northwest Italy"I found very good, a good section on Turin, nice illustrations, good sections on Langhe and Monferrato as well as Val d'Aosta, lots of things I learned from too. Time Out Guides is quite comprehensive about Turin as one would expect from a guide series primarily for cities (Time Out was the de rigour London weekly guide for ever and branched out into Europe some 10 years ago), but their Piedmont section I found lacking and innaccurate in parts. Lonely Planet's Piedmont guide I didn't like so much,IMO they would have been better off sticking to developing countries and off the beaten track where they made their fame and fortune.
And Dorling Kindersley has an Eyewitness guide book of Turin, with great breakdown illustrations of buldings such as the Superga Mauseleum, Doumo etc as well as good maps, restaurant and hotel guides and covering other parts of Piedmont as well.
But I can't recommend the ever popular Rick Steves
who hasn't "discovered" Piedmont yet!
BTW Mochi, I would hardly consider the Langhe are around Alba as "Southern Piedmont" which IMO would be around Cuneo and the maritime alps, more like Central Piedmont, or if you want to split fine hairs, "South Central Piedmont"

BTW, I wanted to thank you for posting useful information on this forum. I read many of your comments before this trip.
