Everything is BOOKED!!
I've been calling all of the affordable hotels this morning and they seem to be booked for the whole month of November. I know i should have started this earlier, but it's too late now. Anyway, my mother and i will be in paris for a couple days mid november during the week. familia and grande ecole as well as others like these are booked up. i did find one in the area called Atel Agora Saint Germain. Has anyone had any experience with this one or does anyone have any suggestions? What's going on in November?? I have been to Paris a few times, so we are spending just a few days and then heading south. i'm sooo excited!!!!
thank you

Have you tried HotelBoulevard.com? We used them for our original schedule in Sep. but had to cancel last-minute. With only a few weeks to re-schedule, I contacted them again. You can e-mail them your dates, price-range, and preferred area, and they do all the leg-work. They found us a room at the du Levant in the 5th for 780 FF a night. Their website has photos and customer comments for almost all their hotels.

Good luck. We're going nest week!

Try Hotel La Motte Picquet. On the corner of Rue Cler and Avenue LMP. It's not as "perfect" as the other board faves, but we had a pleasant enough stay there in December 1998. Be sure to ask for rooms 105, 205, or 305. They have great bathrooms. Here's the website: http://www.france-hotel-guide.com/h7...tepicquet2.htm

I know a few people have stayed here recently, but no one has reported back.

I don't think there is anything special going on in November in Paris, Paris is just a very busy city and there are a lot of business conventions in the fall (although Sept and Oct are busier than Nov)--the hotels you are calling are listed in a lot of popular American guidebooks and are mentioned on places like this forum, so you need to book those type of very popular budget hotels months ahead of time. I haven't stayed there (Agora), but have seen that hotel and the Atel group has an interesting list of good hotels. That wouldn't be my first choice, but it's okay; I think I've read comments about it being noisy (maybe on www.hotelboulevard.com) and it's kind of down a deadend street which I don't like much, but I have read good reviews of it in several guidebooks (like Cheap Sleeps in Paris), so I'm sure it would be okay. It's near the Maubert metro stop which is fairly convenient, I just prefer other areas and streets myself. In case you have not found it, they have a web site that gives you vacancies and rates (www.atel-hotels.com) and they do have a pretty good list, as I said; you might also consider the Novonox, St Thomas d'Acquin, and the Grand Hotel de l'Univers which are on their web site; the Cadran is also supposed to be pretty good, it is more towards the Eiffel tower area. The Balcons hotel is also a good suggestion.

Bonstelle, I was in the same position as you until this morning. Had a hotel for this weekend but could not find anything for the next three days. My travel agent queried 62 hotels. This morning I went to the Tourist Office on the Champs-Elysees, no. 53, I believe. In 10 minutes they had found for me a three-star within site of the Eiffel Tower. Very nice hotel, good price. You can't book, however, until the day you need the hotel. I booked at 9 and was told that I had to appear at the hotel by 11 a.m. I don't know how comfortable you are leaving it like this to the last minute, but thankfully it worked for me.

Whatever occurs, you will have a great time. Paris is fantastic, and this comes from a diehard Italophile.

Ciao amd au revoir.
Try the Mercur or Ibis tourist hotel chains. They probably have a website. Generally good locations and very clean and inexpensive. I've stayed in The one in the Bastille and another in Place de Italie and they were concenient to the metro. here are at least 10 locations around Paris.
