Euro Symbol - How to Type?

I have Word 97 and would like to insert the Euro symbol. I don't find it on the character map.

Could someone help me?
Thanks!

The Euro symbol isn't on the Microsoft Character map. To insert it in a Word 97 document, hold down the Alt key and type 0128 on the numeric keypad (not the top row above the QWERTY).

The best way to insert it into an on-line forum (such as Fodor's) is to type the sequence <b>&amp;euro;</b>

Try an ampersand &amp; followed by the word euro (no spaces) followed by a semicolon, as in &amp; euro ; no spaces.

&euro;

And for the Mac users, it's Option+Shift+2, like this: &euro;

Be aware that the Alt sequences are not universal, so if you send an Alt character to someone with another platform (operating system or browser), it may not render correctly.

Ampersand sequences are an HTML standard, so they will always work.

&euro; <b>&amp;euro;</b>
&pound; <b>&amp;pound;</b>
&yen; <b>&amp;yen;</b>

Just used alt+156, and hey, presto - &pound;. But alt+128 gives me capital C with cedilla (&Ccedil.

Ampersand sequences - as, &amp;euro, &euro; - no go. Why, I wonder? Won't work in an HTML Outlook message either.

I'm using XP and the current versions of MS Office.

Platzman and Neil_Oz:

Please try again, adding the semi-colon after the word euro.

Er ... sorry, best ignore my last post - the euro symbol didn't show when I typed &euro; but turned up in the posted message. And yes, I should have typed 0128, not 128. Too early in the morning, more coffee indicated.

Are you just supposed to trust that it works or are you supposed to see it turn into the little symbol?

Internet posting is so tough!

Once more:

If you use Alt or Option keystroke sequences, the character may or may not display properly on someone else's machine. If you use ampersand...semicolon sequences, it always will.

If you press &quot;preview my reply&quot; before posting, you can see whether it worked or not.

I actually have a list for diacritical marks if anyone wants it (gleaned from that great thread from long ago).
