Eating in Paris with newborn and toddler?

Hello,

Heading to Paris next week for a long weekend as my husband will be sitting an exam there. We have a four-week old baby and a two and a half year old, and will be driving down from Brussels.

We've already booked our hotel - the Novotel near the Gare de Lyon - got a good deal on a family room plus there's an indoor pool which our toddler will love (oh, and private parking).

Though we are very familiar with Paris, having lived there in the past (my husband is Parisian and I worked there for several years), I've not got many ideas for good places to eat with a baby and child in tow! We'll probably order room service at the hotel at least one evening, but it would be nice to go out for an early dinner once or twice as well.

Does anybody have any recommendations for child-friendly eateries, ideally in the Bastille/Marais area? As we'll have a (hopefully) sleeping baby with us, it would be good if there was room for us to have the stroller by our table (so that rules out the more "cosy" restaurants).

Thanks in advance!

Are you kidding - going to Paris and wasting a meal at a Chuck E. Cheese??? There have got to be better options for a kid-friendly French restaurant without having to stoop to something barely better (and maybe worse) than a McDonald's.

try Chez Clement on bd Beaumarchais, just a bit farther north than the column (west side of street). You probably know about them, but I know they have lots of families in there and for me, it's a decent restaurant for anyone, even if not gourmet. But I've always enjoyed my food in there. They even have special things for babies, as I recall (like seats). I think they might have an area where you could have a stroller by the table.

You can't go wrong at the Marché des Enfants Rouges. There are picnic-like tables where you can eat things you buy at the market, snack bars, informal cafés, and so forth. It's at 39, due de Bretagne and I believe is open every day. Great people-watching, too, and you can do your grocery shopping at the same time!

Most brasseries will not be a problem at all, and there are a ton of them at Gare de Lyon. Bastille has plenty of places, too. Most families with toddlers would probably prefer a spacious place like the Café Français on the west side of the place. And of course there is a Léon de Bruxelles on boulevard Beaumarchais facing the Bastille, and they are super well equipped for small children, including high chairs.

Thanks to you all for your suggestions - plenty of ideas to inspire us!

And thanks for your kind wishes Susanna. You are right that with two small kids I don't get much time to post on here these days, though I do still lurk whenever I can! Enjoy Lyon

well here it is.

the ChukEcheese experience. perhaps the "yukEcheese" experience would be closer to the mark.

Ha, ha. The address Anastasia25 posted is that of the Elysée Palace, the equivalent of the White House.
