Do You Ever Wonder What Has Happened to a Poster's Trip?
After reading the trip reports here, I found myself wondering about some of the people here who have asked questions and gotten alot of good information for their trips, and then we never hear from them again.
I was thinking about the young man who was going to drive all over Italy in a few days and got irritated when so many people advised against it.
Also, some of the honeymooners who have us help them decide where to go and what to do.
What happened to Faithon holiday? Did she stay in Rome with her Cousin?
I do wish people would write reports and let us know how our advice was.
Just rambling on here....I have a life it is just boring today....do you ever wonder what happened to the trips?

I agree, but on the opposite side of the coin, I did write a short report after two of my trips, especially thanking those who had helped me and given me great advice. My post sank quickly to the bottom both times. Not that I think anyone should respond, but it did make me wonder if the people who had helped me, had even seen my post. I see so many trip reports and usually someone responds with "glad you had a good time"....but not on my posts. Both times I just had to hope that my post was seen, but I have no way of knowing.

I received a lot of good information for the trip I took, and I thanked people as I recieved it. The problem is that even though I had a great time, I don't think my trip would be that interesting to most people. I still check the board, and if I think I have something to add that would be helpful, I do so.

In some cases where I have asked a question and received helpful information, I pull the same thread back up and report how it went. That way I figure the people who responded to my initial question will see my report. Doesn't work so well if you've asked for lots of info on different threads, or for long trip reports, but it's good for specific info.

At least you and most people take the time to thank someone who has posted some information. On several occasions, I have posted an answer and the person didn't take the time to at least say thanks. A little common courtesy would be appreciated.

Nocinonut, my most recent trip report was at the beginning of April and is titled "Back from a wonderful trip to Florida..........". Hopefully it will be a help to someone in the future and hopefully it was seen by the nice folks who helped me.
Bbib,.... I'm in la la land most mornings too!!!! I'll go and have MY cup of tea!

I am guilty of not posting a trip report for our Paris excursion. We spent most of our time walking around the city, seeing the must-sees and not eating many meals in lovely restaurants for budgetary reasons. It was a great trip for us, but I think the report might not have been useful to many readers here. I do hope that when I asked questions, I thanked everyone at the time. And like Peggy, I have tried to reply to any posts when I felt like I had something useful to add. (I just hope I thanked Underhill for her suggestion to eat at Au Petite Marguery, where we showed up without reservations and slightly underdressed, but where the staff was very accomodating and the food and wine were wonderful!)

If they're high profile, like Faith, then I wonder. Sometimes I just see them join in answering other's posters questions later. Different forms of contribution.
I've asked a few questions. Personally, I think I've decided not to do a trip report after our next trip. We're going to a less popular destination and have noticed that material here doesn't appear to be useful to the readership if not related to a fairly core group of countries.

I continue to be frustrated that Fodors will not/has not take(n) the simple step of sending a simple e-mail, or providing some easy BRIEF instruction - - at the time of each new registration, for example - - about clicking on your own name to find old posts.
I don't think that anyone "owes" the board a report after returning from a trip. But it would be great (and it IS great when these occur) - - to have someone bring up their old question, and tell whether/how the info they received (or failed to receive) was helpful - - or provide additional info, even if tangential that has a bearing to the original question.
Best wishes,
Rex

Nocinonut, Yes I do wonder especially for someone who made such a big splash on the board like FaithOnHoliday, although lack of followup makes me figure it was just a joke for sure.
I'm not a big fan (writing or reading) of trip reports because everyone looks for something so different from their travels. But for specific HOTELS current and accurate information is priceless!
I have gotten amazingly insightful hotel tips which I used & I do pull the old thread later to thank the person who helped me & toss in my two cents on what the hotel was like. Also I post in reply, to recommend hotels I have had a great experience with.

Just for the record, faithonholiday did come back and post from Italy. Bambi had taken up with a Roman lover and they were both living the high life. When Faith was once again accused of making it all up, she said she'd had enough and was saying bye-bye. I, for one, was sorry to see her driven off. Troll or not, she was amusing, and I had the feeling her Southern Gothic family had lots more strange treasures to share.
