Denmark natives or experts...

can anyone tell me if Thisted is a common name in Denmark. I'm wondering because the Dane who was rescued by Seal Team 6 is named Thisted, and that was my grandmother's maiden name.

I'm not an expert, but I have been there a couple of times. My wife's family is from Denmark, and I did a little name research at one time to determine what town they originated before immigration.

The above website is for the Danish State Archives and it is in English. You can punch in first and last names, approximate dates, and it will give you some history. It worked for me.

Peg: The Mormon genealogical pages cover all countries and religions. Follow directions and you could come up with the name and Danish town where your family was from. I don't believe there is a charge.

Dude...Zag victories are becoming Few and far between...they've had their 15 minutes of fame.
The new Zags are Murray State, Vegas and Creighton in the top 25.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll look in those links.

Tower: wrong, wrong, wrong! (About the Zags, I mean). Success like they've had is the result of a great coach and great players. Jimmer Fredette is gone, and we have two great freshmen, Pangos and Gary Bell, Jr., as well as the usual suspects--Elias Harris, Robert Sacre, Dower, Stockton, et.al. The Zags play BYU tonight, and BYU has lost two home games. We'll see how that goes.

I know there's a town in Denmark called Thisted, but my grandmother didn't come from there. My grandfather came from a place called "Mammen," where family legend has it that some great-great-great, etc., grandparent found a Viking "horde." Unfortunately, I think the main find was an axe and the shreds of some clothing.

We went to Denmark a couple of years ago. What a great place!

Peg..is Stockton the son of the "great one"..?
With the year UCLA is having I have no right picking on the ranked Zags. Mea culpa.

I, too, have enjoyed visits to Denmark...so tranquil on one hand and bustling on the other. Hope you find something about the name.

Tower: Yes, Stockton is the son of "the great one." He's only about 5'9" but is a really good player. I think he's been overshadowed this year by Kevin Pangos.

I see the Stocktons at Mass occasionally, though they no longer live in this parish. I think John Stockton coaches a girls basketball team at St. Aloysius elementary school, which is pretty cool.
