Croatia: What to see with spare days in Dubrovnik?

We are visiting Croatia later this month, we start in Dubrovnik and are driving north. We have planned stops at Plitvice National Park, Rovinj (with visits to Pula, Motovun, and Lake Bled) then onto Zagreb.

We have two extra days in Dubrovnik and I'm not too sure what to do? We are 4 adults and 3 children (ages: 3, 10, 12). We already have an evening tour planned walking the old town wall.

Any suggestions welcome, thanks!!

going there myself in September. Hope you get some replies. Did you have to get advance tickets for the evening tour walking the old town wall? if so, is there a website?

To explore in Dubrovnik itself - there is a cable car that goes up the mountain - beautiful views and a nice cafe on top. You can walk along the Stradun (main street in the old town) and take in some of the other historical sites. It's also nice to just wander the streets of Old Town - be sure to get the kids some ice cream along the way ! If the weather is nice, there are beaches to enjoy. It wasn't beach weather when we visited but I believe there is a nice beach or beaches on the Lapad peninsula - easily accessed by local bus if you don't want to drive. You can take a boat tour out to Lokrum island, just out from the Old Town harbour. You could also take a water taxi out to the nearby town of Cavtat-it's worth a half day visit. Again, if the weather is good, Cavtat has a beach area. There are also a number of other island excursions offered from the harbour in Old Town.

I'm sure you will be able to keep busy for 2 days.

It's not clear how many total days you have in Dubrovnik. For most people, two or three nights is plenty to see the town and a few side attractions.

If you are looking for alternate sites between Dubrovnik and Zagreb (instead of spending the two days in Dubrovnik), a side trip to Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina on the way north is definitely worth a night and is easy to do. You could also take the ferry over to Korcula for a night or two if you want to spend a night on one of the islands of the Dalmatian coast.

Hgailey:
Plitvice is purely magical...might want to take a ride down to Kotor and vicinity. Lokrum, just off the coast is a pleasant hiur or two and Cavtat is quite charming. Here below are some of my pics taken from 1980-2004..pre-war and post-war.

If I understood correctly, you are either looking for something interesting in Dubrovnik itself or close to it.

If you want to visit nearby places, Ston and Mali Ston are definitely worth it. They are quite close to Dubrovnik (1 hour away).

If you have a whole day, then Mljet National Park is also a good idea.
