Credit Cards and ATMs in Norway

Has anyone had problems using credit cards (VISA) and/or ATMs from the US in Norway? We are having so much trouble buying train tickets on the internet that I'm having visions of being stuck with no funds.
Thanks.

No problems on my trip in May 2012, but you do need to notify your bank that you will be using your credit card for overseas purchases including train tickets.

YOU become the ATM in Norway..at least it feels that way. Agree with the most importance that history traveler recommends.

US cards don't satisfy the security arrangements of the rail company. Just call their customer service, explain the problem and you can book without extra charge. Check availability and price of trains in advance https://www.nsb.no/en/frontpage - remember that booking up to 90 days in advance will get you cheap (but not refundable) minipris tickets - prices go up as seats are sold so book early!
US cards should be OK as long as your bank doesn't stop foreign transactions and you have a pin code. Cards in Norway use pin and chip technology - in more remote areas you might run into shop assistants who wouldn't know how to work non-chip cards.
