Could someone help me with booking train from Brive to Paris on Oct. 1st at 9:30AM?
Hi,
I've gone to the train site and put in the following information:
Depart Brive on Oct. 1st, 930AM train to Paris. (one way)
Passengers 1 (29-59) and 1 (60+)
Then they come back in french with 60E (Total for 2 people in lst class) I guess this is the PREMS that everyone is talking about.
How do I buy this ticket and do I get a copy of the ticket over the internet? I'm assuming this is non-refundable. We will be leaving from Sarlat that morning to drive to Brive and have to drop off the car at the Brive railstation office which opens at 8AM. Will I have enough time to make this train? How long is the drive from Sarlat to Brive?
THANK YOU SO MUCH AGAIN for all of your help.
Dac

Hi d,
The 09:31 train is 29.00 pp. That is the regular fare for 2cl.
There is a 30E pp 1 cl PREMS fare.
If you choose that, your next screen asks if you want insurance.
The next screen shows that you can print your ticket online. "Imprimez votre billet vous-même"
Make sure that the info you provide to print the tickets matches your passports.
You need only show the printouts and your passports to the conductor.
The later trains have 17E 2cl fares.
Driving times are at www.viamichelin.com
Enjoy your visit.

I did this drive last year and maybe I'm lame (probably), but it took longer than ViaMichelin said it would by about 10-15 minutes. Then I had a hard time finding the car rental place because it was a few blocks from the station. I am a bit directionally challenged.
We also hit some traffic nearing Brive and I had wanted to fill up the tank before returning the car. I stopped at a station and it wasn't staffed yet (too early); my American CC didn't work in the self-serve, self-swipe part of the gas station. In the end I paid to have the rental company fill the tank. Pricey.
Anyway, we still made the train easily but give yourself about 20 extra minutes above whatever ViaMichelin says.
Have a fantastic trip! As I was driving to Brive that morning, my heart sank at leaving the Perigord.

Specify France as the place of origin for the Internet ticket. I believe that if you specify the U.S., you will not be able to print it out. Before printing, safe the file as a PDF, in case something goes wrong with the printer. You can then reprint it as often as you like.

Leely 2 : I'll also drop off a car at the Brive railstation office at the end of Sept.
I was under the impression that the office was right across the street from the train station.
If it's a few blocks from the station, can you tell me where exactly? Thank you.

travginny, there is probably more than one car rental return there. I cannot recall from whom I rented (booked through AutoEurope). However, I had imagined the rental office would be obviously visible from the train station itself--consequently did not bother to google map it or anything. It wasn't far, maybe a block and a half or so, but I had not factored that in. As I said above, we still made it to the station with plenty of time to spare.
Just map the address and put it in a folder or bookmark it or something before you leave for Brive. You won't have a problem.
Have fun!

In 2007, we took the same trip that you are planning to, driving from Sarlat to Brive, dropping the car, and taking the 9:35 train to Paris.
My notes indicate that we got into the car in Sarlat at 7:40 and arrived at Europcar at 8:45. The drive was made in light rain, and included an emergency pit stop for a member of the group (me). We had plenty of time, even though the Europcar office (which was supposed to open at 8:30) opened late. It finally opened, I'm guessing around 9 or so. We still had time to take our bags to the station and grab a quick bite to eat before the train arrived.
