Cotswolds: Great Bed and Breakfasts to visit the area?

We very much enjoyed our visit to Stow on the Wold at "Top of the Wold," a 'funky' B&B on the town square. It is (or was - in'98) an antiques emporium, with 3 B&B rooms on the top floor. - Extremely pleasant and comfortable...looking out on a town-square, tree-shaded view, with a very modern bath....An excellent breakfast, with a typically British (quirky! and delightful) host. You'll find lots of other Cotswold recommendations here, and esp with a search...but we'd go back again - and that, after all, is the ultimate recommendation, isn't it! Any questions...you can reach me at [email protected] (i bury the real address to avoid spam, an unfortunate reality on an otherwise extraordinary site)

Have stayed twice in last 2 years at Oxstalls B&B, just outside Stratford. Very nice. Not exactly in the COtswolds, but very close and there is all the Shakespeare stuff to do.

When doing the Cotswolds, don't forget to include the southern parts - Northleach, Bibury, and Fairford

The Bell in Charlbury, Oxfordshire, outside Oxford is a wonderful small hotel...very picturesque, great food and beautiful rooms and very good location for touring the Cotswolds. Also, The Lamb Inn in Great Rissington is wonderful and we have stayed at both twice. I know The Lamb has a website and maybe The Bell does too.

When all the B&Bs in my price range in Chipping Campden were full, I wound up staying in a little village about a mile up the road called Broad Campden, with a lovely lady named Mrs. Button. I know it's on the left-hand side of Sheep Street, the main road through Broad Campden, and if you pass the village pub/restaurant you've passed her house, but I can't give better directions than that! I think the TI in Chipping Campden, in the town center, has contact info. Anyway, she was a wonderfully warm and gracious hostess, couldn't have been more typically English, and I felt like I was staying with a friend's grandmother. The house was beautifully appointed; I think she maintains two guest rooms. This was about four years ago, so I can't remember very well what the rates were, but I think about 18 GBP per night for me as a single.

Bob - If you would be interested in a small non-tourist village in the Cotswolds I would recommend the Lower Brook House in Blockley. You will not find tour buses and tourist shops but will find peace and quiet a great pub full of locals and fine dining options are available. The scenery is beautiful and varied with hills, valleys, streams and woods, as well as 70 public footpaths with many varied walks. I couldn't put my hands on their brochure quickly but I know I have it. Email me direct if you want the info. As I remember a double was $100-$125/nt.
Regards - Tom

Cynthia,

Thanks for the reply re: Lamb Inn to slaughters. Next question: Is the walk/hike a pretty one? Is there a foot path or would I have to travel main roads? If you intended on staying in the Stow, slaughters, Bourton area for a couple of days, where would you stay?

Thanks
