I haven't stayed there, but tried to get reservations earlier and was told a Rick Steves tour was booked in for the same period we wanted. Just happened to meet up with some folks from the tour who were staying there and they loved it. We stayed at the Four Seasons, right down the road and loved that, too.

Back from Galway and must give my impressions of College Crest Guesthouse. Maybe they were having an off 3 days, but our experience was not good. Although I had confirmed the reservation, we were greeted in a very unfriendly manner. The woman who did not identify herself, was annoyed that we had arrived as she was on the phone and didn't want to get off. She briefly put down the phone and rudely showed us our room. It was the only room on the ground floor and it was small, dark and a concrete wall (outside) was blocking the only window, with garbage all around it. We decided to ask if they had any other rooms available. We had reserved our room 3 months prior. She was very annoyed that I interupted her (still on the phone). She yelled upstairs to a woman who was changing the bed to show us another room. As we went upstairs we noticed that the rooms all seemed to be empty. I must note that we paid the top price for a double. The other woman seemed embarrased and showed us the next room which was only slightly better. At that point we had been traveling for almost 18 hours and took it. When we settled in we noticed the room had a horrible mildew odor. This persisted during our stay in the room. The room also had flea(s). The type you find on your pet. The public areas of the house smelled of old cooking odors. The house was like a funeral home. I don't know how the other guests felt, but we were totally unhappy and could never recommend it to anyone.
