Clean up spam
I don't profess to be an IT expert but as a long time supporter of Fodors forums I am finding it increasingly tedious to return when confronted with page upon page of spam posts - what is being done to rectify this??

The new owners of Fodor's have said they are planning to move to their own forum software which would be very different than what we use now. I assume that project is ongoing, and the move could happen fairly soon. It probably isn't worth much of their time to try to fix the spam problem on forum software that is soon to be junked.
If I were going to try to fix it temporarily, I might simply reject any post that contains Korean characters, at least in the non-Asian forums. How many legitimate Korean posts are there in the Europe forum? Any?

If I was a new person.. just googling to find the Fodars forum.. one look at the pages with all that gobbly gook and I would never come back.
Fodars is doing themselves some damage here.
Its getting worse and they really do not seem to care.
I go on other forums and I have NEVER seen it like this on them. .. any of them.

bvlenci: They don't care at all about the forum, they just wanted the email addresses.
For what?
I've not received any email yet from them, spam or otherwise. have you?

Switching from one forum software platform to another is not trivial. I'm not surprised at all that it is taking a while.

How many threads do we need complaining?
Everyone knows there is spam.>
Hey hey - ditto to that and that the moderators know it and how it could have a deleterious effect on Forums participants are surely working on how to deal with it more effectively and it seems they do act fairly quickly except at certain times of day or night.
So we are preaching to the choir with these now redundant posts.

>>Well it does seem the very worst on the Europe forum, PalQ.<<
Actually it hits every forum to some extent. Often Asia is even worse than Europe, and the USA board gets lots of spam too but mostly the url title-types.

We all agree something should be done about it - and I believe something is being tried to lessen it -it's not like these threads are telling moderators about it for the first time.
Like the doctor told a patient who was noticeably shrinking in height by the week - "you just gotta learn to be a little patient!"
