Cezanne/Pissarro exhibit at the Orsay: how is it?

Has anybody been to the Cezanne-Pissarro exhibition currently at the Orsay? Opinions? I want to be sure and make time for it, if it's good.

If it's the same one that was at MOMA in New York last year, then it's magnificent!

I have not seen this specific exhibit. If they offer headsets to rent describing the exhibit, pay for the extra. I have done this at many museums and I get so much more out of them. At the Rockwell museum we switched between the adult and the childrens' version. It was fun.

If you like Cezanne or Pissarro, how could you be dissappointed?

Carmen: it's very possible to be disappointed by an exhibition, no matter how much you enjoy the artists in question. It could be badly put together, unfocused in theme, not have the best choices of works, etc. One would expect the Orsay to have a top-notch show, but it's best to make sure it's worth a visit. Particularly since I will be there during the show's last week, and it's likely to be crowded.

Howard: I just checked, and it is the same show that was at the MOMA. In fact the MOMA curator who helped organize the show is Pissarro's great-grandson! Neat! thanks for the affirmation.

"Best to make sure it's worth a visit."

I think an exhibit of works by Cezanne and Pissarro (especially at the d'Orsay), even if not the "best" works or the exhibit is "unfocused," is worth the effort. The opportunity to see these particular works (especially together) may not happen again in your lifetime.

I saw the exhibit when it was in Los Angeles. I would see it again at the d'Orsay in a heartbeat.

We saw this exhibit at the MOMA and really enjoyed it. I hope you are able to see it.

Have a great trip!

Only until 28 May! It's top on my list when we go next week, though I'll probably go to the Ingres show first as it closes on 15 May... I missed the Cezanne/Pissarro when it was on my doorstep here in NY, but I heard rave reviews from everyone who saw it.

If it is, indeed, the same show that was at MOMA, then put it at the top of your list! As I wrote previously, it is magnificent! (A framed poster from the exhibit hangs in a prominent spot in our home as a constant reminder of the experience!)

Saw the exhibition a few days ago, and it was wonderful. I highly recommend it. I'd suggest reservations as the D'Orsay lineups were tres long.

BowenLinda isn't kidding about the tres long lines. I went in March and we had limited time to see the Orsay, just getting into the museum was tough enough
and waiting again to get into the C-P exhibit would have been too much. There was an ABUNDANCE of humanity trying to see this exhibit, so I can't imaging that it would be anything but spectacular. Use of the museum pass to get into the museum quickly and any effort to get a reservation/pre-pay for the C-P ticket would be time well invested

There is currently a Cezanne exhibit at the National Gallery in D.C. How can there be two major showings at the same time? (I am not remarking on the quality of either, I am just curious.)

Thanks all for the opinions on the show. Especially glad to get the heads-up about the long lines. I figured as much, since 'locals' will be going to see the show as well as tourists. And I'm seeing it the last week, when there will be a last-minute flurry of visitors. I'll see about advance tix as suggested.

ggreen: Have fun at the Ingres show. I'm just missing that one by four days and am disappointed about that.

Wow, DejaVu, lucky you! Two of my favorite artists. If it's at the D'Orsay, I can't imagine it being a disappointment.

We saw a wonderful Van Gogh/Millet exhibit there years ago and the 2 hour wait was definitely worth it.

Have fun!

Dayle -- I envy you getting to see that Van Gogh/Millet show. I read about it when it was on. I would line up for hours to see anything with Van Gogh -- He's my man!

My parents just saw it and loved it. My dad is a big Cezanne buff and saw the exhibit prior to heading off to Aix for more Cezanne sight seeing. It was well worth the effort for both of them. Go see it if you are at all interested.

When I go to see this exhibit I will have a museum pass, but how do I make reservations for the Cezanne/Pissarro exhibit? I leave for Paris on May 15,so I could make the reservations before I leave or when I first arrive in Paris.

DejaVu,

Van Gogh is my very favorite too! The Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam is at the top of my current list. Just haven't made it yet. Have you been?

I got to see the Van Gogh exhibit at LACMA a few years ago and thought I'd gone to heaven.

marthag: on the Musee d'Orsay website, there are links to buy tickets. It looks like you can choose a specific time and day to visit.

I also see they are expanding the opening hours of the exhibition from Tues May 23 through Sat May 27 (the last week). In addition to regular hours, the exhibit will also be open from 6-9 pm.
