Casinos in Istanbul ??

Hello Hello:

My better half and I are headed to Istanbul in about a month. I'm just curious if there are any casinos within walking distance to the Blue Mosque (our hotel is right around the corner). I'm not a big gambler, but I do like to visit one casino in each European city that I visit. Thanx !

Well I admit I was suprised to find any - Turkey is a Muslim country so I really didn't expect there to be any.

Why not? Every big hotel in Egypt has a casino.

There are no active legal Casinos in Turkey.
There was a time casinos booming at all 5 star hotels. There were groups of players coming from various countries as well. But casino rules were not regulated well and it became a social drama within local community and the government of those years (I think 12 years ago when we had the lady priminister)insteda of finding a better solutions of regulating the casino business they banned all casinos.
Now Turkish people are going to Turkish Cyprus, Bulgaria or even Monte Carlo for gambling......
I am surprized to read Hetismij's comments. Whats got to be a muslim and gambler? We do also drink wine, raki, beer and other alchaolic beverages next to milk and water, seccular country like Turkey we do also grow our population altough we are Muslims

Happy travelling,
Murat

Murat:

Thank you very much for the explanation. I was confused, as the internet identified many hotels as having casinos. I am looking very much forward to our first visit to Istanbul and Turkey. Thank you again !!
