Carry On - Virgin Express
Traveling in October from London to Rome with Virgin Express with wife for 25th anniversary.

Concerned with Virgin's limits on weight of carry on luggage. Dimensions are not a problem, but a max of 5 Kg (11 lbs) seems very tight.

Anyone know how strict they are on enforcing the weight limit?

Thanks!

I don't know about Virgin Express, but I just flew on Virgin Atlantic from Heathrow to SFO. FYI: Virgin Atlantic was very strict w/ carry-on luggage. There were signs at check-in stating that only one carry-on was allowed and a weight restriction of 6 kg. The counterstaff actually weighed everyone's carry-on bags and told people w/ overweight carry-ons that they would need to check them in. Carry-on bags were then marked w/ a strap indicating that they had been cleared.

Keep in mind that purses, camera bags, and laptops don't seem to count in that carry-on restriction. At least, they didn't on my flights.

The new strategy with the ever shrinking carry on allowance. Wear a coat with REALLY big pockets. They don't weigh your coat. Camera around neck. Purse seperate (if appropriate, I would look silly). Pockets stuffed to the gills with everything heavy. I have an old Barbour jacket I may take next trip. It has an inside pocket for carrying a brace of pheasant. Almost big enough to fit my carryon in.
