Cardiff to Caerphilly to Castell Coch to Cardiff
We plan to be in Cardiff on a weekend in October and want to spend a day visiting Caerphilly and Castell Coch. What's the best way to do this using public transportation?
From the web sites, it appears both places are open 9:30 - 17:00.

Quck P.S. in case Mucky isn't around. Since Castell Coch is esssentially in the suburbs of Cardiff my feeling is that you'd need to get a local bus out there from Cardiff city centre & back, and separately get a train from Cardiff ciy centre to Caerphilly and back. But Mucky being the man on the ground may know of some cunning way of combining them. Where are you staying - I'm assuming it's in the city centre?

We're staying in the city centre.
It appears we can take a train (on Saturday, Sunday's train schedule is minimal) to Caerphilly (or a bus, but the train is faster), then a bus to Castell Coch (at Tongwynlais) and another bus to back to Cardiff.
However, it's always good to hear from someone who knows.

Fusion, You already have the answer.
I would take train from Cardiff central or Queen st station to Caerphilly, the castle is about 10 mins walk from the train station.
From there get the bus to Tongwynlais where you will have a 5 min walk to Castle coch.
Failing that get a taxi from caerphilly to Tongwynlais its about 10 mins by car.
Return to Cardiff centre by bus.
