Car Rentals - France, Italy Croatia
Hi There,
My husband, 8 month old son and I are travelling for a month and will be renting a vehicle in three different locations.
We were looking at renting through AutoEurope / Kemwel. For the most part, I have heard good things.
My one concern: when you look at the total quoted price for both providers, they are (on average) $80-$100 cheaper then renting directly through Enterprise.
The total on the Enterprise webpage includes charges related to:
- Premium location fee (my guess, because we are picking up from airport?)
- Vehicle License Fee
- VAT
Now, on AE/Kemwel, they do include VAT but exclude the other two that Enterprise charges for.
I have heard some people being 'ripped off' when it came time to pay. Is this because of the additional fees that Enterprise already has included?
Are we safe to book through AE/Kemwel, have you had any problems?
I am also aware of the added fees for highway tolls. And, have heard that diesel cars are cheaper on fuel than gas ones...
Your help is much appreciated.

I've been using AutoEurope for years and have had no problems.

I don't understand what this means. If you're referring to AutoEurope then how can you be ripped off? You have a contract so you see all the charges; you know what is included and what is not included. They're a reputable company and have a cancel anytime until pickup contract so if you change your mind you can cancel with no penalties. How could someone be ripped off with this company.
You need to give explicit information rather than vague terms with no substantiation.

Thanks for the reply and for your feedback/experience.
I believe they rented from AutoEurope, for example, through Hertz and when it came time to finalize, Hertz charged additional fees originally not quoted by AutoEurope. Make sense?
So, I am wondering if this is what can happen or if they got 'ripped off' due to tolls and possible fines?

Simple. Just prepay with AutoEurope.
I know Hertz does DCC if you book with them. I'm not sure that would happen if you used AutoEurope and they used Hertz. You can avoid DCC with Hertz if you prepay
