Charles, <BR>You're going to have to shop on the internet. There's no such thing as a truly "cheap" rental in Italy compared to other European countries due to the steep Value Added Tax of 20% and the mandatory theft and accident insurance that usually isn't covered by credit cards. All of the major American rental companies have websites; check them as well as Kemwel and AutoEurope. You may find the latter offer the best prices.

I got a great deal through auto europe. We are going the end of Sept. and are paying around $300 for 13 days with CDW/theft at zero deductible. Auto Europe is a broker. The rental company will be Europcar. I have read many good reports on auto europe at this site and others. Do a search and see what you come up with. Check any company you can come across and check specials.

I agree that Auto Europe is an excellent source for rentals. Have used them before in other countries and it has worked out fine. $300 for 13 days though sounds very very low....unless it is for a sub-compact or a compact size car. We have about $330 for 8 days for an Intermediate with pickup on the way out of Venice and return on the way into Rome.
