In addition to the Six Volts, there once was also Positive Earth. Now, there are very good scientific reasons why you don't want your earth to be positive¹, but somehow it took the Brits sixty years to catch on to why the rest of the world was doing it that other way. Maybe someday they'll drive on the right side of the road (yes, the opposite of "right" is both "left" and "wrong".

Today no problem and as I said on another thread you can have the best of both worlds and simply use the car charger not only for mobile phones but for ipods and battery chargers with a cheap $6 dual voltage do hickey readilly available from places such as cellphoneshop.net.
