Can anyone suggest a PRIVATE guided tour of Normandy?

I'm spending 5 days in Paris in the beginning of July and plan to take a day trip to Normandy. I would love to find an excellent English speaking private guided tour of the area. I'm a history buff and am really looking forward to this. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Colonel Chilcott, absolutely. He is a retired British Lieutenant Colonel. He and his wife retired to a manor house in Bayeux. He is not only a WWII history buff - he seems to know an awful lot about various eras in history! You should stay with him, actually.

I don't have his number with me, but do a search on Bayeux/Chilcott/B&B or manor house, France.

good luck!

In 1998 and 1999, my husband, young son and I used the services of Jean-Marc Bacon. He is based out of his family's hotel, Hotel de la Gare, in Bayeux. He has a spotless, no smoking minivan.
You can take the train from Paris. The hotel is just across the street from the train station in Bayeux. Mr. Bacon is enthusiastic, very knowlegeable and speaks English very well. His tours are also extrememly affordable. You can contact him by phone: 31-92-10-70 (add international number and number for France - I forget) or fax 31-51-95-99. Call mr. Bacon from the US - set up your date ahead of time. Call him after 7pm Paris time, otherwise someone may answer who doesn't speak Franch. His tours last for an afternoon, and he will have you back at the train station in time to get back to Paris at a reasonable hour.

Thank you all for your replies. Beth and Cynthia, can you help me find Colonel Chilcott? I have not had any success. Do you have a phone number or any way I can reach him? Would greatly appreciate any help! Thank you in advance!
Philip

My records show: phone 011-33-2-31-22-39-09, fax 011-33-2-31-21-97-84 and email [email protected]
Our ten-hour tour was terrific. To stand at a little crossroads (La Fiere near St. Mere Eglise) with a battle map laid out on the back of the car, or climb a hill and learn what was happening in the surrounding fields made for a great day.
