Buying Metro passes at CDG

How far away is the ticket area from the arrival/ground transport area. Coming in on Air France and would like to get passes at CDG. Yes, I know we can get them at manned Metro stations. I seem to remember that we must go down to the RER area which as I remember is quite a schlep.

but if you are going into paris via the RER, you have to go that way anyway.

we just got back, and i can say that found loads of ticket machines, the only snag being that you either needed change [which we didn't have] or a credit card, which we did. otherwise you need to queue at the ticket window, but there weren't many people doing that so the queues moved very quickly.

good luck!

PS - it's €9.60 each way now from CDG into central paris.

If you aren't using the RER to get into Paris, there isn't any logical reason why you would go there at CDG to buy that ticket, I must be missing something. Why wouldn't you just buy it in Paris when you intended to use it and did have to go to a station.

BTW, you do not have to only find a manned window. Lots of places have machines that take coins and bills. I presume you would have some money on you of some kind (euro). You do not need to have "change" if that means coins, some take bills.

Christina, we were in Paris this last weekend and NONE of the machines we found in any of the metro/RER stations took notes. just coins [ie change] or cards. but there were vey few people at the manned ticket windows so we were ok.

another quirk is that some of the ticket gates did not actually have a slot for the ticket to go through - you had to run the ticket over the navigo sign on the top; at still more, the gates just opened without you doing anything. AND at some of them, the tickets we'd bought didn't work so they issued extra ones at the ticket window.

just be prepared for the unexpected!

PS - lest you think that I'm not enamoured of the metro, I love it. so cheap and quick. ok, some of the correspondences [connections] can be a little long or difficult to work out, but generally they are pretty easy and the signage is good.
