Does anyone have suggestions for a decent place to stay in Bruges? We will only be there for one night but would like to get as much of a feel for the area as possible in that small amount of time. If you have recommendations for under $80 night, that would be great. Also suggestions on what to do & See would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hotel Cordinear (sp?) is a few seconds walk off the main square and approx. $60-80 per night. Decent breakfast (included), with bathroom in the rooms. We enjoyed walking around (duh), the canal cruise gives a different perspective, the Streffe (sp?) Henry brewery was interesting (and the beer a bargain), we also enjoyed climbing the clock tower. Restaurants on the square are (of course) touristy, but we had a good, though expensive, dinner at what I believe is the Restaurant Centrale, or something with 'central" part of the name on the (center of) the side of the main square across from the bell towner. Also, look for a grocery store for snacks and very cheap, but good wine. Enjoy.

Hotel Prinsenhof is wonderful, but you will not get it for $80 a night....splurge a bit and stay in a hotel that is GREAT the Prinsenhof.

I second the nomination for the Hotel Cordoeanier. My single with balcony & private bath, including breakfast & tax, was about $50 U.S. Doubles are a little more but still well under $80. The location is fantastic, rooms are clean & comfy (very spartan decor, but I wasn't in the room much), staff is very helpful. They have a website at http://www.cordoeanier.be/testeng.htm<BR>If you do a search you should find lots of threads with suggestions on sightseeing in Bruges. I posted a trip report in June which I will try to top for you if I can find it (it has "Paris & Bruges" in the title).

With such a limited amount of time to spend in Brugge, I'd suggest you make the following your priorities regarding "what to see, what to do" <BR><BR>Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk, the Church of Our Lady with its lovely Michelangelo Madonna and Child and the tombs of Charles the Bold and his wife.<BR><BR>Begijnhof Ten Wijngaarde, the 13th century Beguinage of the Vineyard, one of the most peaceful spots in Bruges<BR><BR>The Gotische Zaal, Gothic Room, on the first floor of the 14th century town hall A stunning room with equally stunning vaulting.<BR><BR>The Gruuthuse Museum, a mansion now devoted to the city's history.<BR><BR>The Groeninge Museum with its collection of Flemish paintings from the 15th century to the present.<BR><BR>And as a bonus, the Lace Centre and its demonstrations of lace making.<BR><BR>For an excellent, reasonably priced Belgian meal, avoid the over priced, tourist oriented restaurants surrounding the bell tower square. Look for Brugse Bistro at 58 Noordzandstraat for traditional Belgian cuisine in a quiet setting at a reasonablel price.<BR>

amy,<BR><BR>we stayed in sept. 1999 at a hotel that was much like a holiday inn. it was either a sofitell or novatell or omnitel. located in the heart of brugges and at a cost of about $85.00. we drove in and found parking quite easy. <BR><BR>we did not tour as much as rented bicycles and travelled all around town to see the people. we had the best beer in the world and had a tough time getting back to the hotel. <BR><BR>we were there for only one night and found that by avoiding the touristy things, we were able to maximize our fond memories of a great travel location.<BR><BR>jim

I agree with the comments below. We stayed at the Hotel Azalea and were pleasantly surprised since I picked this hotel at random (this was in Nov and most reasonably priced hotels were booked). It is a small, clean, quiet and convenient hotel. Friendly staff and nice breakfast. On a side street, short walk from the Bell Tower. Under $90.

I just returned from 3 nights in Brugge this past October and loved the city. We stayed at the Hotel Adornes http://www.proximedia.com/web/adornes.html and loved it. Its a small hotel just a few blocks from the main square as well as the windmills. The hotel is located on a canal next to one of the cobble stone bridges. Very scenic and quite location with underground parking just around the block. The rooms were quaint with very modern bathrooms. We had a room overlooking the canal. They also offer free bikes as well as a nice breakfast in a dining room that features a huge fireplace with a large black pot, just like in the old fairy tales. <BR>There is also a small pub just accross the bridge that has good food and great, cheap beer. Be sure to try the Triple Brugge but be warned you will get tipsy!

Hi Amy,<BR>one night, one recommondation.<BR>Brugges is a tiny romantic city, <BR>and as this is a fact stay at the <BR>small hotel "Oud Huis Amsterdam",<BR>right at the "Speigelrejkanaal"(canal)<BR>Very traditiona, with a charming belgian interior, very classic and decent, very cozy and private and <BR>with air conditioning. I thin that's is truly the indivualest choice you can make and enjoy Brugge at it's best.<BR>Try the mussel with french fries (a must in belgium) than go to the "Belfried" tower to have a look aver the many canals and particia buildings. Furniture is hand-painted and the 2 rooms are very original. Breakfast is also very good.<BR><BR>Prices : about 75 USD pro room (not pro person)

I thoroughly enjoyed staying at the Egmond Hotel. The location was convenient, a good value, and they have a free parking lot.
