Brittany

My daughter and I are going to Paris May 21st for 7 nights and would like to take the train to Brittany (rent a car there). We are unsure how long to stay. Want to do the coast towns (Dinan, mont st michael, quimper). Not sure where to stay (inbetween somewhere). Thanks in advance.

We prefer to stay in/near a town so we can walk around after dinner. If you are staying 7 days in Brittany, I would do Mont St. Michel on the way to St. Malo, and stay "intra muros" (inside the walls). You can walk the ramparts after dinner! Then stay in Dinan for 2-3 nights and don't forget Vannes, which is a charming small town.

As for specifically which lodging, try visiting websites such as slow travel and trip advisor. We loved Brittany, but it helps if you like "moules frites."

We are spending 7 nights in Brittany this July prior to our week in Paris. We are basing in a gite (www.homeaway.com) near Dinan and doing day trips from there. We like to have a base and come home each night to make our own dinner and relax. The house has a pool which the kids are very excited about.

I don't think I made myself clear. We are staying in Paris for 7 nights (luxembourg parc) but are unsure how many days to allow in Brittany. I haven't made airfare reservations because of this. Would it take 4-5 days to see it? I understand we will rent a car in Quimper (after the train ride from Paris) so getting around won't be a problem. Unsure how far towns are )Quimper to St Malo for instance. Thanks Again

I use this site to calculate distance. We explored Bretagne last year for the first time and liked it very much. Have a great time!

If you only have 7 days total in France, I certainly wouldn't recommend spending ANY time in Brittany, unless you've been to Paris a bazillion times. There is more than enough to keep you well occupied just in Paris in a week.

That said, please tell us how much time you have total in France because neither of your posts has made that clear.

Any decent map, hardcopy or online, will give your distances and driving times.
