Bowman tours or a tour guide for Mull / Iona
We'll be in Oban in mid-September for a weekend. I would like to book a tour guide or Bowman Tours for a trip to Mull and Iona. (There are four of us - DH, my parents and me.)
I'm having a hard time believing that a tour bus would be the way to go, but did read a pretty favorable review on another site.
Any suggestions for a local tour guide? We have a car and we could just go on our own, but I was really hoping to be able to find someone to drive us around and give us a more local perspective on the islands. I'd also like to give DH a break from driving for a day.

Bowmans are a long-established company based on Mull. Their drivers go around Mull every day, so will have as much local knowledge as anybody. They also run regular buses to Tobermory and other places on the island, connecting with the ferry from Oban at Craignure.

Turus Mara (www.turusmara.com) also offer tours from Oban via Ulva Ferry to Ulva, Staffa, Iona and the Treshnish Isles.

Either drive yourselves - or use Bowmans. Since there are 4 of you, self driving would be much less expensive and you could spend as much time as you wanted. (I'd drive personally - but Bowmans is fine)
if you can swing it, It would be best to spend a night on Mull instead of day-tripping.

I went on the Oban - Mull - Iona tour on Sunday, and the highlight of the trip was the Bowman's bus across Mull. The driver was knowledgeable and witty, and stopped the bus when someone spotted a stag hiding in the bracken. He kept up a commentary all the way from Craignure to Fionnphort.
