Bournemouth or Bristol

Bournemouth or Bristol
I am travelling next month to Northen Ireland -> Dublin -> ??? -> Liverpool
Between Dublin and Liverpool I have the opportunity to fly either to Bournemouth or to Bristol. I have two&1/2 days to fill. I'd like to go to the sea and lay in the sun but if the weather's bad I'd like to be able to do something else. I've read that Bournemouth has not many alternatives to sunbathing and I'm not sure Bristol has a beach...
Can anyone help me?

I'd go for Bristol as the weather is not to be relied upon in this country. The trouble is that you do not have a car which is useful if you wanted to chance it with Bournemouth and have opportunities to explore the surrounding area.
But two days is very little time, so it's not a decision you will regret. I'd go for Bristol as it has plenty to entertain you come rain or come shine.

I've seen there's a lot to see around Bristol, and if I'm actually going there I was told not to miss Bath. For the rest, I don't want to travel around more than that. On the first week (2 weeks total) I'll be driving around NI like crazy and I'll need some relax on the sencond week ;-)
Do you know if there is any beaches or similar in Bristol?

Weston Super Mare comes to mind, but it is quite a distance away, there are others, but their names escape me. However, Bath would kill one day, and Bristol the other. British beaches are pleasant, but in that part of the world they aren't sandy - the best ones are in Cornwall and the Channel Islands.

Hi there,
I come from Bournemouth and believe me it is well known for 7 miles of golden sand beaches, however it can be busy at weekends if the sun decides to shine!
The New Forest is only a short drive from Bournemouth and has many typical gorgeous English villages, thatched cottages etc. which you can exlore, nice country pubs for lunch.
IMO Bristol is okay but I wouldn't class it as a tourist destination and somewhere to relax for a couple of days.

Definitely Bournemouth. It's a pretty town with good shopping, if a bit light on other opportunities for sightseeing in the twon itself. It's well located for Engish countryside and coastline.
Bristol pobably has a little more about it, in itself, and Bath and the north Devon coast aren't THAT far way, but it really has to be Bournemouth

If you really want to sunbathe (something I can't even begin to imagine the point of, but chacun a son gout and all that), it'll be a great deal more reliable - and probably cheaper - to fly to somewhere with dependable sun, like the Costa Brava, and then on to Liverpool.
Ryanair or whatever to Girona will cost about the same and take only an extra hour each way.
The chances of sun are higher in Bournemouth than almost anywhere else in the British Isles (which means they're still pretty low). But, without the opportunity to sunbathe, the attractions of Bournemouth really are pretty minimal.
Lovely countryside roundabout for walking, which is terrific whatever the weather. But if you'd wanted that, you wouldn't be contemplating hanging round a beach all day under any circumstances, surely? And you really do need a car to access the Dorset countryside. The cost of hiring one will be far more than Ryanair Dublin-Girona-Liverpool flights.
Now for real relaxation, I'd just fly straight to Liverpool and walk its endless, gloriously bracing, beaches. But you're not going to get much of a tan that way, and a good rainproof clothes are a useful insurance.
