Booster seat for a 7 year old
Do we need a booster seat for our 7 years old son in France? Does anybody know the official rules? I found several sites but they are all in French .
Thanks,

yes, there are laws for children under the age of ten. In theory, I suppose it would pass the law if he were as large as an eleven year old child, as the law's purpose is safety appropriate to size of the child that makes the seatbelt work, but I wouldn't want to argue with the law.

For babies and toddler you must have a car seat , different types depending on the weight
For a child of over 15 kilos, up to the age of 10, you must have a booster seat (rehausseur)used with a seat belt.
From the French ministry of transport:
En voiture, vous devez installer un des systèmes de retenue spécifiques à la taille et au poids de l'enfant (norme européenne) :
- Bébé de moins de 9 kg :lit nacelle ou porte-bébé dos à route.
- Enfant de 9kg à 18 kg : siège à harnais, siège à réceptacle ou siège dos à la route.
- Enfant de plus de 15kg (jusqu'à 10 ans) : rehausseur en complément des ceintures de sécurité adulte ou bouclier ventral.

I am somewhat confused now. I called AutoEurope and asked the very same question. They said they will contact their office in France and put me on hold. Then they said that if a child is older than 7, there are no requirements for a booster. Did anybody travel with the kids about the same age? What did you do? Could anybody clarify the situation please? Very much appreciated.

My family traveled through France and Italy with our 6 1/2-year-old, and we did use a booster seat.
We use one at home in the US, where for his height, he is still required to be in a booster, so it seemed safer and was definitely more comfortable for him, since he could see more easily out of the car windows.
Rather than packing one, though, I purchased the booster in Paris at the end of our week there, before picking up the car. It was about $20.
He's still using it at home, too....
