Beware of Tourist House Liberty in Florence
We were shocked when we arrived at the hotel. There was a veneer of dust all over the room. At least, two light bulbs were burnt out. There was very little security - no one at the front desk over night. Breakfast is included but you would wish that it wasn't. We had booked the room for three nights on the Internet. When we told the manager that we were leaving after our first night, he was very polite about it. But then he charged us an extra night on our credit card without notifying us that he would do so.
We found a wonderful hotel right near the Duomo for a few more Euros for our last three nights and were thrilled.
Avoid this dump - it is NOT a bargain and has convinced me never to book online again unless I know the hotel to be reputable. This place was a truly horrible experience

I see that you have placed a review on Trip Advisor. It's ranked at 200plus on their list.I don't think I'd be likely to consider a hotel that low on the totem pole, unless it were brand new and I had some other recommendations.

It's a mixed bag of reviews on TripAdvisor (which is not to be trusted any more or less than any other collective source of info of course), but a bunch of people liked it, to varying degrees and for varying reasons, from "beautiful rooms" to "terrible" and anything in between, like "good value for the money" etc..
So - we don't really know how to take your criticism in the big picture.
When you found your room on arrival to be lacking, did you ask for it to be done up - dusted and cleaned and lightbulbs replaced? Maybe the maid had a bad day or left early or some such snafu - it happens. Did you, and what did they say or do?
It is not customary for someone to be in attendance all night unless you get up into a price class that is no longer "budget" so I wouldn't hold that against the establishment.
Just what was wrong with the breakfast?
What was the rate you paid, and how many "a few more Euros" did you pay in the other place?
Please give us these details, to lend a bit more meaning to your report.

Hi Rm,
>When we told the manager that we were leaving after our first night, ... he charged us an extra night on our credit card without notifying us that he would do so.<
It is quite common to be charged for one night when cancelling a reservation within one week.
You might feel that we are unsympathetic, but there are often many reasons why one person might like a place and another not like the same place.
