Am flying into Florence and spending approx. 8-10 days in florence and tuscany and would like to spend another 2-3 in positano, then leave italy through naples. Anyone have advice on the best way to get to Naples/Positano from Florence? Train/plane? Is there a way to do it without stopping in Rome? Appreciate any advice. <BR> <BR>

kay- <BR> <BR>are you up for renting a car? that is how we did it. Stopping and spending a night in Greve, lunch in Siena, Orvieto, and night in Pompeii. the AM in pompeii and then Positano. Positano well well well worth effort. Enjoy. Ciao.

I plan to rent a car while in Tuscany but had heard driving along the Amalfi coast was treacherous at best, so I had planned to ditch it. But your trip was painless? Any memory of approx. how long it took? <BR> <BR>thanks!

Kay, Sounds like you are set on going <BR>south. The drive to Positano is not that bad---easy to Sorrento, and then <BR>a bit scary to Positano but not like <BR>the part of the coast after Positano. <BR>Plan on about 6 hours from Siena. It also depends on where you are staying <BR>in Positano---the last mile can be the <BR>hardest. Feel free to ask---you will <BR>need good advice on this trip and I will try to help. I am glad to see you <BR>have a flight into Florence---that will <BR>make life easier.

You can take the train (MAKE A RESERVATION FOR A SEAT - CAN NOT BE STRESSED ENOUGH) from Florence to Naples. From the Naples train station, take the private Circumvesuviana rail to Sorrento (it leaves twice an hour, takes approximately one hour to get there, and costs $2.75). In Sorrento, buses leave hourly from Piazza G. B. Curtis in front of the train station (buy your ticket at a news stand in the Piazza) to head down the Amalfi Coast, where it makes stops in many towns, including Positano. This may seem complicated, but I would recommend doing anything but trying to drive yourself down the Amalfi Coast. Leave it to the experienced bus drivers.
