Sorry, Terry. I have stayed at maybe 20 different places in London over the past 30 years; I sincerely hope that none of them were the best. Interestingly, all my visits were memorable, whether I stayed in nice places or dumps.

Maybe if you adjusted your request by asking for good B&Bs or by putting in location or price requirements...

OK OK already... ;-)

I have stayed at Iolanthe twice now. It is very near Hampstead Heath, Golders Green tube stop. I don't have the number right on me, but if memory serves - try 181-455-1417. I'll check and get back with you - I last stayed in September.

I think it is a lovely B&B - SMACK BANG on the Heath (fall out the front door, there it is) and it is also very reasonable - the last time I only paid 40 bucks (25 pounds) a night. For a small single room, but still... the other trip I think I paid 35 pounds and got a double room to myself. They now have two en suite rooms (which I did not stay in, but as they were empty they let me use the showers in there instead of down the hall).

This is an actual residence, in a very lovely (i.e. wealthy - you don't live in North London, on the Heath, if you are having fiscal problems. Think NW Washington DC or Potomac, for instance) residential neighborhood.

They have 4 rooms to let - two with showers, two without - you walk down the hall to the bathroom, big whoop.

basically you feel as if you are staying with a family.

I think your "memorable" post may have scared people off - while I think this place is quite lovely, it isn't golden-faucet-handled.

besides, if this is your first trip, you WILL remember it forever - it's the law. (whether it is good or bad, too!)

Beth

Hi Terry,
My favorite B&B in London is #47 Warwick Gardens. It is in a very desirable location and is quite reasonable at 40 lbs a night. The breakfasts are wonderful and Nan and Stylie are very nice.
It is a beautiful victorian townhouse in Kensington and is near Holland Park. There is also a walled garden and a private entrance. I highly recommend it. Their website is: www.surfpacific.co.uk/47warwickgardens
Have a great trip!
