Benedict Cumberbatch in Hamlet

Heading to London soon for a long weekend to see this play and visit old friends and wander.

I see that Hamlet has already had a kerfuffle in that his "to be or not to be" was moved to the very beginning, briefly. I can't wait. I will readily admit that the main draw for me is Benedict, even though I enjoy Hamlet and have seen it many times. (trivia no one cares about but me - my dearly departed kitty was named Ophelia.)

First priority is the play, but for certain the first thing I am going to do once I land on the Saturday is get a grilled cheese sandwich in Borough Market, especially as BM is closed on Sunday. It's becoming a tradition, this will be the third time I've made a beeline to BM after landing to get this for lunch.

Currently looking up new exhibits or things to do. I am probably going to go horseback riding in Hyde Park. I may do yet another walking tour with London Walks. You cannot run out of things to do in London, the challenge is narrowing it down especially when you only have 72 hours on the ground.

Last visit was in February which was another weekend visit before heading to Paris on the Eurostar.
That visit I stayed in the Grange Hotel near the British Museum, this time I will be staying at the Waldorf.

flygirl - the last time I stayed in London was at the Waldorf [one night, for work, someone else paying] - and it was great. you should have a great time.

BC has complained [perhaps that's too strong, mentioned might be a better word] that during parts of the play all you can see or hear are people taking pictures and videos of him. I hope that that doesn't spoil your enjoyment of the play.

I did see that, annhig, and he was the epitome of class in how he handled it.

Sadly I'm the one paying but I got a good deal. Great area - I've stayed at One Aldwych before and you just can't beat the location.

Are you in London any time soon? Would be nice to meet for a pint!

Sorry to dash your dream, Flygirl, but there was an article in the Seattle Times this morning that said the play had completely sold out within minutes of the tickets going on sale.

I joined the Barbican as soon as his play was announced and was in the early queue to get tickets. I had tickets before the general public!

Who else is going?

I've lost track of which posters are Londoners these days. Any locals fancy a pint before or after? (after may be easier)?

Flygirl, I'd love to meet up but I rarely if ever get up to London - Exeter is beginning to seem foreign to me, and Shrewsbury a couple of weekends ago was positively exotic!

My husband and I are have tickets to Hamlet, among other shows, but our trip is in October. Should that coincide with anyone else's trip to, or residence in, London, we're always up for a pint.

I'm going on the 2nd. gailscout is also going but I don't know what date.

How long are you in town? I'm at LAX right now prior to flying to LHR / EDI and will eventually get down to London on Sunday night.

A bunch of us are having a GTG on the first if you are around.

annhig, maybe some other time then!

Kyra, will miss you by a month.

Janis, I will likely miss you guys as well. Sept 5 is the play. Before is probably dicey since I will arrive at the hotel around noon and have to get my act together including a spot of sightseeing/BM. After the play is *probably* better if you are still in town.
