I am traveling to Greece in March. Are there B&B's in Athens and on the islands? I only hear talk about hotels.

I can highly recommend the St Thomas B&B in Athens. English/Greek owned (Janet and Ari) it is well worth considering. Friendly, friendly people who went out of their way to help us feel at home in their home. I can't now find the web info I used to have but their details are here:-

Thanks for this. This summer we will be returning to Athens for the third time and I never gave any thought to a B&B.

I'll check this out as it may suit as more than a hotel.

Have alook at nyloo.com, there are some small B & B style places on there. I have visited the Marble House Pension, Koukaki, Athens and it is very nice, in a small side street but close to all public transport.

Have you been back in Greece recently? We visited again last year and again stayed at the Arethusa. Also, that time around I found some Athens cats!

B&B is a British or English-language concept. In Greece, on the islands and in tourist areas, there is much accommodation of this sort, though places rarely serve much breakfast because the Greeks don't eat much breakfast. In Greece, the term in "domatia" or "rooms". If you go to a popular island, you'll be besieged by room-owners as you come off the ferry; if not, just look around, and you'll see signs advertising places. In March, most tourist places are still shut down for the winter and few room-owners will be open for business because hardly any tourists go to the islands in winter.

Yes, been very busy and mostly visiting Australia plus a wonderful holiday in New Caledonia, a beautiful place and will be returning there. However, back to my other favourite place Greece, and hopefully in a few months. Are the staff still as nice as they were at the Arethusa, they are so helpful and friendly?
Which islands are you travelling to this time round?

Yes, the folks at the Arethusa were so friendly once again. This time around the hotel was absolutely full but the lady on the desk was so patient with everyone. She is very kind and took so much time to help us out with directions and recommendations for restaurants. Also, when we checked in she knew we had been before and that made it even nicer.

My husband damaged his leg just before we flew to Greece last time and help was freely given by the Arethusa staff. Also, when we arrived at Mykonos airport I had arranged in advance for a wheelchair and transport to town 'just in case'. Thanos from the island who posts here regularly had provided me on Fodors with numbers of local agencies that could supply. When we arrived at Mykonos airport this georgeous young man was waiting with the chair and a kind of mini-bus. I started having a Shirley Valentine moment and wondered if he had a boat!

Anyway, it turned out to to be Thanos himself and it was so nice to meet someone who posted from here. We also met his wife and kids. They made it a very special trip for us.

We hope to return this year and I am workign on persuading my husband to go back. Possibly Athens, Piraeus (for his ex-nay memories) and Mykonos. No change there, but its what we both enjoy.
