B&B/INN between Paris and Sarlat Dordogne
Hi
I need a stop off between Paris and Sarlat Dordogne region for a night
I would like a picturesque village / the name of a budget friendly Inn/ room for a night.
Many thanks

With all due respect to jamikins and her (his?) usually great advice:
Olivet is in suburban Orleans and have been there many times - would not call it the proverbial picturesque french village though it has an old center to it and is on the Loiret River, a tributary of the Loire and this river is cute - nice walks along it.
But it is in a big conglomeration with lots of traffic on the main road that goes over the Loiret right in the center.
Would be an OK pick if it were anywhere near half-way...
But it is only about an hour from Paris so not anywhere half way to Sarlat - look more IMO around Angouleme - a nice old city but not a picturesque village.

Actually -- ElizabethG probably needs a place only a couple of hours from CDG at most. She is arriving after a long overnight flight w/ 2 kids and it won't be til late afternoon when she gets the car sorted out an on the road. IMO - if she drives half or more the way to Sarlat she's in for problems. (IMO really - she should take the train or stay the night in Paris -- but she's already nixed those on another thread)

She is coming from an airport so I assume CDG...perhaps she could give more info.
Can you recommend a picturesque village that she is dreaming of that can look in about two hours from Paris on the way to Sarlat? I don't know the area but that would likely be helpful...

The OP is stuck w/ this because she made some (admittedly) boo boos when booking flight/car/gite. I think at this point I personally think "picturesque village" loses out to "practical stop over"

I looked up Angouleme I never heard of it but I saw a few cute b&b to stay - that is a good choice has anyone heard of
Saint-Benoît-du-Sault, France ?It is off the A20 whereas Angouleme is off the A 10
do you know what road I take to Sarlat that might determine my stop ?

I am taking an overnight from NYC arriving at 1pm to CDG
I have done this and driven to Azay le Rideau before but
I really dont know if I can get all the way to Sarlat.
You are right picturesque might be too much to ask for
I figure I can maybe get 1/2 to Sarlat 2 -3 hours out of CDG
I think by 6pm I will be burned out
Thanks everyone I am VERY grateful
If it was just me I would wing this tiny portion of my trip but when traveling with
two little boys alone I can chance it

Are you arriving on a weekday - if so don't forget that you will likely be hitting rush hour around the ring road around Paris which will slow you down.
Why not just drive an hour or so and stop just outside Paris, relax and have a meal, sleep then get to Sarlat the next day?

We get in on a Saturday at 1pm - so now that you mention that it is definitely
better than a weekday
I am fine with any of that I would just need a town or place to look for an inn
many thanks

Well the above should get you going!
I plugged your route into google maps then went to trip advisor and looked up towns along the route. Orleans was 2+ hours so I started there...perhaps you could start looking there...

Look at http://en.gites-de-france.com/ and look for accommodations within a département between Paris and Sarlat.
Check out Angle-sur-l'Anglin, a plus beau village.

Have a look at Loches in the Loire valley. We stayed there on our first trip to the Dordogne and loved it. Stayed in the Hotel George Sand, but it was a long time ago.
Or Fontainebleau. Not so far, but a good place to recover from a flight and prepare for the next day' drive.
Certainly not Angouleme, too far from Paris and Sarlat, and mostly fairly ugly.
