Bath - 2 nights one full day - December

We have been to Bath once before, although very briefly as part of a day trip and really only did the Baths. We will be driving from Monmouth in Wales to London December 18 and will have two night. So we thought we would stay in Bath and have a better look around, acknowledging of course that the weather could be horrible. Ideally we would like to stay very central, where we can park the car and just have a good walk around and have dinner in a really nice pub or restaurant.

Love to hear your thoughts on what you would do in Bath with just one full day, not needing to visit the Baths.

Or it could be fine.

The issue in central Bath is parking. Relatively few B&Bs, and even hotels, in the central district have parking. With a car it actually could be easier to stay out in the countryside and just go into the city using the park and ride lots.

But - depending on your budget and finding a place w/ parking - staying in the middle would be great. I just enjoy walking around Bath, eating, maybe visiting the Thermae Spa, #1 Royal Crescent, etc.

Also visiting places like Lacock and Castle Combe

The Bath Christmas markets will be on at that time as well.

good idea, aussiedreamer - an evening and the following day will be much better than no time at all.

if you start looking now, you should manage to find somewhere with parking; I like using booking.com as you can usually get very good free cancellation terms.

We spent two nights in Bath a few weeks ago in a delightful apartment that was very central (the Crystal Palace apartment on Abbey Green), but it would be a pain with a car I imagine. The HOHO bus that goes way up into the hills was very interesting. Apart from the Roman baths, we just explored on foot for hours.
