Barcelona - places to stay
My wife and I will be spending a week in Barcelona (Sept. 28 - Oct. 4). Have never been to Spain. Looking for recommendations on hotel/B&B; looking at some literature would seem to suggest Old Town best area to stay. Budget should be about $175 a night I would think. Any recommendations on
things that we "must" do while in Barcelona also.

IMO, what one "MUST" see is what one most wants to see. Have you checked a good guidebook? The cost will be nugatory, and you will have a wealth of information at your fingertips. For that matter, you can consult one at a local library or bookstore....
A week is perfect for Barcelona -- enjoy!

There is no real B & B tradition in Spain, besides casa rurales (which are houses for guests in the boonies), although it is growing because of tourist demand.
I would just avoid any hotel with an address on the Ramblas, it can get very noisy.

There are hostals but with a $175 budget you'll be way above most of them.
Near but not too close to Placa Catalunya is convenient. Closer to the sea in the older parts maybe a bit more scenic.
But from Placa Catalunya to the sea is only about a 30 minute walk. The touristy part of the city isn't huge.

We stayed in the Ciutat Hotel in the old town http://www.ciutathotels.com/es/hotel...tat-barcelona/
It is in a great central location, rooms were modern and clean, and it has a good restaurant also. We would definitely stay there again.

We spent a week in Barcelona last April. We stayed at the K&K Picasso. I recommend it highly. It is in El Born (Old Town) and is within easy walking distance to many great restaurants and attractions. And the HO-HO bus stop is right outside the front door.
