Barcelona apartment - location advice

Jump to last reply

Hoping that folks with Barcelona experience might be able to help - trying to decide whether the location of an apartment I like the looks of is reasonably safe.

We are a couple traveling to Barcelona in about a week. I've had Le Meridien booked forever (since we have SPG points), but decided to look around and see if there is a good apartment alternative, as I generally prefer apartments for stays over 3 nights and indifferent to hotel services like concierge service (but very particular to having access to coffee machine, on the other hand) :)

Having searched this forum, I went to Habitat website and I like the look of this apartment in particular:

But perusing some past threads on safety, it sounded that staying in the area south of Ferran is discouraged. So I was hoping to hear from anyone familiar with this area (which seems to be a block southeast of Plaza Reial) whether this area is notably less safe than L'Eixample or Born.

We don't consider ourself to be particular street savvy or otherwise, but we've lived in large, not terribly safe cities in the past, and it's probably our 18th trip to to Europe, so we are generally pretty comfortable in large cities and keeping an eye on our belongings. I understand that Barcelona may be a class in itself, in this regard.

Any other suggestions on apartments are very much appreciated, I'd normally go through VRBO but because of the limited time left, now am concentrating on agency operated listings, with particular emphasis on being bookable online.

Many thanks!
