Balmers or Backpackers Villas?

I've heard so much about both! I'm travelling the rail over Europe with 3 teenage sons, and plan on a few days in the Jungfrau region. I need cheap sleeps that would be fun for the kids, and comfortable at the same time. Thanks!

About 10 years ago I stayed at Balmers and it was fun! Full of recent college graduates though who are there to party. I was one of them at the time, so what can I say. <BR> <BR>My favorite place to stay in that area is actually across the lake (Briensersee I think it's called). There is a lake side youth hostle there that I've stayed at twice (completely separate trips). It's cheap, quiet, clean and cozy (fluffy comforter covers too). Next door is a recreation center that sits on the lake. Has a high-dive, nice grassy area, picnic tables, etc. <BR> <BR>Hope this helps. <BR> <BR>You have to take the train to Brienz from Interlakken (spelling?) to get there, but it's not too far. <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR>

I stayed at Balmer's 5 years ago after graduating from college. It was a lot of fun at the time and is just as Maria described. It's not really a family place. I would recommend finding an inexpensive pension or hostel near Lauterbrunnen. There is the Mountain Hostel in Gimmelwald (haven't stayed there myself, but it seems to get a lot of recommendations). You may also want to look at www.eurotrip.com - have a great trip!

The lads may enjoy Balmer's. If you enjoy being in the middle of a fraternity party you will too. <BR> <BR>Better than Interlaken, which is not in the mountains, you should go to one of the interior villages. <BR> <BR>Our favorite is Muerren. Small village, no cars, superbly sublime scenery. The Chalet Fontana is a good buy, and the Eiger Guesthouse is quite reasonable. <BR> <BR>Gimmelwald has both a mountain hostel and a pension. Gimmelwald is a bit isolated for us, but certain picturesque with scenery almost as good as from Muerren. <BR> <BR>Lauterbrunnen in the valley below has a hostel, and the Hotel Staubbach operates as a B & B and is quite reasonable with a fine setting near the Staubbachfall. <BR> <BR>Info on these at www.twenj.com/swisshtlbo.htm and on the area at www.twenj.com/bovisit.htm <BR> <BR>Ed

Thanks for the info! I want the kids to have a great time but I'd like to get some sleep, too. Balmer's sounds a little to wild. Again, thanks!
